I think it's fine considering there's no major label involved this time. Plus, it'll take up less room on the shelf!

Yeah, just like ONA, 3121, TRC, Musicology (tour edition) and others. Paper thin packaging that is a pain to keep looking nice.

he is not only determined to have his image removed from youtube but
the past decade's packaging has also been a sneaky campagn to get us
to remove his image from our shelves completely. his discography was
looking very nice up to 1998 and then all of a sudden it's nothing
but digipacks, rave white plastic, download albums and cardboardish
coasters. i gave up. i just put my entire cd collection in a box and
ripped everything to my harddrive. with all the different formats or
special edition cardboard shitties a record collection these days is
more like a landfill than a tidy, easy on the eyes library.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Crystal Ball came without lyrics too. P had this site to remedy the situation.

http://www.crystalballcd....rames.html

It's been reported that Lotusflow3r.com will also have the lyrics up and perhaps downloadable.

Cool, thank you! So, all the "info" and comments on the lyrics on there were given by Prince? Some sound "too earthy" and straight for me to believe that! lol

My Planet Earth and 3121 discs are still in almost mint condition...

It's kinda sad though that he doesn't give very much attention to his CDs, both to packaging and mastering.

I've got some great HiFi stuff over here, and it doesn't really love those cheap looking packagings, with mastered-for-really-small-speakers-so-we-put-bass-on-max CDs in it. Now I have to say that most recent CDs (Led Zeppelin Mothership for example) are victims of the loudness war (wikipedia that), but Prince CDs seem to be even worse sometimes (luckily there's some perfect sounding soundboard bootlegs around).

Would it be possible to see the backside of that tri-fold?

I don't mind the packaging, as long as I can get original high-resolution versions for iTunes art.

Jewel cases are bad for the environment and add cost to the product and shipping. Maybe LotusFlow3r.com will have downloadable CD inserts?

Not that I don't love the jewel cases with CD booklets and all, but right now I don't care if it's on CD-Rs with the the title written in magic marker, just bring on the music! cool

I miss the days of vinyl with liner notes that I could read/study while the turntable spun a new record.

But come'on folks... besides being more environmentally friendly to produce (as opposed to plastic cd cases) and cheap of course, this kind of packaging acknowledges that more and more people are buying and storing media digitally.

That's especially appreciated as someone who lives in an apt in the city where real estate & room is too scarce to be occupied with stacks of cds.
