2day'sHip Hop & Prince

I was watching this show on BET called "106 & Park" & there was this rap group on there. I think it was this guy called Pastor Troy & the other people were his clique (NOW dont quote me on this because I may be wrong about it). But 1 of the host were like who are the artist that U would like 2 work with and they all were like "PRINCE!!!" so enthusiatically.
How would Prince fit in with 2day's Hip Hop??? eek
Im a big hip hop fan but with Prince?... I just cant C it!
Especially now.

BTW...HIII EVERYBODY! big grin...havent been here in like 2 weeks wave

Well you know he has already worked with rapper Common. He has worked with Q-Tip as well so he would do just fine in the Hip Hop of 2day. Remember Prince is Hip Hop anyway because he can be and do anything, far as categorizing goes.

Rap has sampled three artists sound entirely over the last 15 years:

James Brown

George Clinton

Rick James

They need to "kiss-up" [No Pun] to Prince to get his samples now...

Britney and The Neptunes came close, but not close enough..

He won't allow The Phony Gangstaz to sample now...

Supposedly, he didn't allow Tupac (who was a fan).

Maybe this is Suge Knight has [supposedly] made some negative comments about Mr. Nelson.

[I've heard a Prince sample of a live performance, but that's it]

No doubt, a new sample sound is needed... The next great "sound" on the timeline is "The Minneapolis Sound".

I know that Prince sold those $800 Sample-CDs, but these DJ-Producers need entire songs to wrap around there crap lyrics! In order to get them they must ask Prince for permission..

Due to all of the Negativity, Soft Porn Imagery, and Lack of Talented Artists in Hip Hop, I believe that he will not allow any samples.

He only allow artist that he respects Sample Clearances.

Apart from some rappers, today's hip hop -especially wectcoast hip hop- exists mainly through funk music.So-called rappers like Will Smith or Puff Daddy use only samples and seem to be incapable of creating their own music. But I assume it woud very interesting to see Prince working with REAL rappers such as The Roots or Outksat.I would love to!

Hey, most of the time, if you could buy a rapper's album as an instrumental, it would be the bomb. It's when they open their mouth that the problem's begin. Besides, Prince admits to liking rap/hip-hop. Can we not forget the days he grabbed a microphone and tried to kick a verse? sigh

I agree, nitab. P Control, as a work of hip-hop, was hard.

The problem with todays rapper is it usually stems from being tone deaf pack the the house and try to sing there wont be no one left YA GOTTA BE DEAD ON IT . I Think he would take them to a whole different level. Prince aint such a bad rapper himself despite what the mainstream thinks, just a different style than the commercial tryin to be a hard ass. EVERY ARTIST SAYS THEY WANT TO WORK WITH PRINCE. MUSQUE said the SAME THING ON 106 & PARK AND LOOK WHERE IT GOT HIM. ON ONA WITH PRINCE.No one is sayin hey I want to work with MJ hes over done, and NOT a prolific musician but just an entertainer like britteny spears etc. hes just the first great pop entertainer to cross most racial borders.

Tupac also used a sample of the backwards portion of Darling Nikki at the beginning of one of his songs entitled "Heartz of Men" from disc one off the All Eyez on Me double cd.

Y'all, that cut is SLAMMIN"!!! headbang Trust Me!!

As many of you recall from the Chris Rock VH-1 interview, Prince spoke about how rappers had gone through James' music, George's music and now they were trying to go thru his. Prince said a lot of these rap acts, he really dug but whenever it got down to "bitch this, hoe that" he would immediately shut down because he said that was "a web" that he didn't want his music to be caught up in. He didn't want his music to be used in that way. However, I think Prince really kinda dug Pac because he's the only rapper that I have ever heard sample Prince.

Prince singing hooks? eek The very thought...singing along on R&B or other stylez of music, okay but hooks? I dunno about that one...could it B possible? I think I cant feel that because I think that once a musical great like he, Prince, starts singing hooks on rap songs like the ones in my generation, his career has hit rockbottom. Prince reduced 2 singing hooks on hip hop songs with theme's like "She gets it from her momma" or "Gator Boots with a pimped out Gucci suit...aint got no job, but Im alright. Cant pay my rent, cuz all my moneys spent, but it's okay, cuz Im still fly!" or "Pass the Courvouisseur" (did I spell that right?) or "Bling Bling! Everytime I drive around your city. Bling Bling! Pinky frost diamond ring sitting. Bling Bling!" or "You think you gansta but you never brought none. You think you gansta but you need to stop frontin'."
