Ok I'm back - had to go out for a bit...
I got 1999 in Sydney Aust here's the track list
Side 1 - 1999 (6.22), Little red corvette (4.58), Delirious (3.56), Free (5.00)
Side 2 - Lets Pretend We're Married (7.2), Something in the water (4.00), Lady Cab Driver (8.25)
1983 Warner Bros

I got 1999 II in Melbourne about 2 years later.
Side 1 - Automatic (9.24), Something in the water (4.00), Free (5.00)
Side 2 - Lady Cab Driver(8.12), All the critics love you in New York (5.56), International Lover (6.35)
1985 Warner Bros

Sorry I can't scan to show the covers, but they do exist. Plus I like the 1999 II cover best, The Revolution are in the background. I got them in the same country but different states.

Are these cassettes?

No Vinyl Records, Never got too many cassettes back then.

Oh! the vinyl was a double LP, some places sold them seperately

http://en.wikipedia.org/w...99_(album)

Originally released on vinyl as a double LP (the first of a number of double sets from Prince), 1999 was cut to a single vinyl edition in some countries; Brazil, for example, opted to issue the release as two separate vinyl albums, 1999 and 1999 II.[4] The original compact disc version of the album was also cut, omitting "D.M.S.R.". There is a disclaimer on the back cover of the original compact disc pressing that reads "To enable the release of 1999 as a single compact disc, the song DMSR has been omitted from the original LP edition". [5] Later compact disc pressings included the track. Also, on the cassette release, "Free" was placed after "D.M.S.R." to end the first side, balancing out the lengths of both sides of the cassette.

Purchasing that first CD pressing of 1999 was a WTF moment. I remember having to go and buy the Risky Business soundtrack CD to get DMSR in a digital format.

Well, it looks like you have an honest to goodness rarity, relatively speaking. If I collected vinyl, it would be a must-have for me. I love the artwork.

I wouldn't feel ripped off, since it's a legitimate, authorized release - someone out there will want it. Trade it for something Purple or Lotusy that you need, or sell it in the Marketplace.

In Australia - I got the album initially as a single LP, then as a double LP. I just assumed it was a marketing ploy by the record company. But the two versions I have both have the same front cover.

1999 was released in Brazil only where the album was split in 2. I've got a copy somewhere at home, however pics below are courtesy of Sleevographia.

I was just kidding with the ripped off bit, plus I would never trade nor sell any Prince stuff I have. I enjoy looking through my P collection. I just wondered why he had 1999 II and you answered my question thanks. Just don't know how it got from Brazil to Australia...PS I wasn't kidding about the jacket - & I'd still like to get one now! cool

Without a doubt the Original track list is way better - but I prefer the cover of this + the million dollar question is where's Wendy?, even in the credits P only thanks Lisa, Steve, Mark, Bobby, ..... crew and God! No Wendy?

Yeah it's pre-Wendy. if you watch the videos (Automatic particularly) you will see Jill Jones (JJ)

But I think Wendy appears on Free, if I remember correctly.

....Also all the lyrics are on the back of 1999 II

I am not sure if this is helps but....Prince recorded/released 1999 as one project. It was a double album at the time, but generally it is always on a single CD or cassette.

There is no 1999 part 1 or part 2...it is all the same project...regardless of how you purchased two halves of the album separately.

So how do you explain the cover 1999 II? plus release dates 1983 and 1985?

& if it was the same project why put the same songs on the other CD.

Yes there is a 1999 II - & Santa is real his name is Prince!

I think what skywalker is saying is that 1999 was always conceived, intended and marketed in whole as a double LP. It was only divided up (probably against Prince's wishes) for a select market - Brazil, thus the 1999 II anomaly.

Skywalker obviously acknowledges 1999 II's existence, he just wants folks to know that it was culled from the same project that was 1999. All tracks are from the same sessions and masters. There is nothing different on 1999 II except the strange configuration, and of course artwork.

Still, a very cool item for the reasons described above.

there is a 1999 II, but it's not an album Prince made. Prince only made an album called 1999. 1999 II just a foreign marketing concept.

Still it's cool because you showed us all something that very few people have ever seen.
