Discounting the some quarter-decent shit every now and then, I firmly believe Prince's music gets worse and worse. You can trace his most embarrassing songs lineally. Hence, I think the topper at the moment is "crimson and clover." Its just so bad, soo soo bad on every level. Trying to do Jimi? HAHA. Prince is okay doing Prince when he was doing Prince (so long ago can anyone remember? thank god for eight-track tapes eh?). A soul mate  Yeah, Crimson & Clover is not a good song, it has a good core but that's all it's got, a core, then the core is repeated to boredom. That shows a lack of judgement.
There's a thing to be said about shorter albums, and that includes all artists. In the 80s it was enough to put out an album with 8 or 10 songs, nowadays most albums contain 12 or 15 songs. It just doesn't seem fair. I get it, it's hard to do a whole album with wonderful songs, so let's bring back the Purple Rain 9 song standard!  | |
