Best - gotta go with Purple Rain Worst - Darling Nikki This is a hard album to judge because it was made also as a (Soundtrack) I strongly believe the songs met the intended purpose in the film (maybe that should be the question... did the songs on the PR lp fullfill the purpose of the movie) Darling Nikki musically is awesome it felt like what it was talking about the guitar work and the ending release of fury in the music is wicked I can't see any other song in that place Take Me With U was intended for the Apollonia 6 album so I say that's not the best. It would have been one of the best of the Apollonia 6 album along with 17 Days Glamorous Life Noon Rendevous Manic Monday hmmmm what song could have replaced Take Me With U on the PR album? Actually the version of Noon Rendevous they performed at his birthday show @ 1st Avenue would have fit well. Least Favourite: Baby I'm a Star Purple rain is the album I recommend to anyone who has never heard Prince before(nowadays some youngsters haven't! tsk tsk - I blame the parents!) I don't think there's a duff song on it, and it's fairly accessible I think...on first listening you're likely to like when doves cry, purple rain, or take me with you, or maybe Darling Nikki if you have a naughty streak(or you're called Nikki)...and gradually the other tracks grow on you...it took me a while to learn to love the beautiful ones, but damn it's beautiful...ha I would die for you has been a new favourite for me since Prince has started playing it solo on the piano...baby i'm a star used to be a favourite because of the live versions from around 1985...sorry I'm waffling now! | |
