To those who have listened to MPLS Sound PLEASE give us some hope!

sitting here listening to the old B-Sides mixes [so funky i wanna be sick] is for me the true classic MPLS sound, grooves locking, chicken grease everywhere, wit & sexyness left, right and centre!. [How incredible is the 12" of Kiss and Love Bizarre?].
So the 2 trax let out so far are [as I think most hard core will agree]just awful. I hate pre-hating a project but can someone PLEASE tell me if the remaining 6 trax have at least half of the old attitude of classic MPLS songs.
P , we need some new slammin funk, my 80's stuff if worn out!.

i did an experiment out of curiosity not so long ago on a fellow prince fan and close mate regarding the new and old prince.

He's a "moaner" and continues to put new prince music down (bar the 4 lotusflow3r tracks) including, TNBALM. He wants vintage MPLSoUND.
So he comes round to my place around a week after Discojellyfish had made its debut and he had not heard it yet, i told him that we got hold of a new bootleg (i gave him a story of how it came about too) and told him it was a experimentation track from around 1982-1984, he got excited and then i played the track...much to my prediction, he LOVED it and i let rip with laughter when he said "this is the sound that should be on the MPLSoUND album". I can say that he was quite literally red in the face when i told him i lied and it's new...he stood corrected wink

This don't prove much but i think it goes to show that maybe, some people just want to go back to the 80s....lol!

DiscoJellyfish is vintage MPLSoUND. I pulled out Strawberry Shortcake from Sheila's album as its a similar venture and DiscoJellyfish is on par if not a little better then that!

i can see the complaints with TNBALM but, everything else could be amazing.

Hold on to your wigs.

have to agree that Disco Jelly fish is a great track. Thing is, with only 8 trax it doesn't leave any room for error. Look at Dirty mind and Controversy, 8 trax each and each track has its own unique quality and totally stands out. I am not stuck in the 80's and love so much of what he does. Lets really hope that the rest will indeed be amazing.

A) U can't compare "Discojellyfish" 2 "Shortberry Strawcake"... I won't let U.
B) I can't understand how folks don't realize that "Discojellyfish" is simply an instrumental version of "Chocolate Box".
C) I really don't like "There'll Never B Another Like Me".
D) No acronyms, please. (there U go, Genesia... I said it.)

It would be funny to convert some of his new songs into bootleg quality, and present the new clear versions of some old classic bootlegs as new... and do a survey among those completely new to Prince about what is better...

that would be an extensive experiment.

i like a lot of his modern stuff with the vocals stripped out, even though i really don't care for his modern production techniques. i know people dislike "planet earth" but i think it has really good music; i'm just not fan of the lyrics these days.

LOL, thats what prince should do with these possible vaults tracks on lotusflow3r.com he should give everyone new tracks. but label them with things like Outtake from the "dream factory" sessions and watch people go nuts over them, proclaiming prince doesnt make music like this anymore. I'd bet you anything that happen.

i won't be able to as it sounds up to date and rightfully so. i don't want rehash 80s stuff, i want NEW mplsound.

i did jellyfish as it could be passed as old....and i truly believe chocolate box would be loved if it was old too. it sounds no different to something like 'sex'.
