fans why are you so affraid of horn-less sound? anybody rember the old days?
no horns. it was only dez prince andre gayle bobby and dr fink creating all the magic. i love horns but let's be frank prince live shows become style because of the horn overuse. maybe the best thing for him now is too go back to basic-his raw stripped sound. when you listen to controversy boots you dont miss the horns dont you. i vote for the stripped down sound because sometime less is more.

i'd like to see him dive into a more experimental territory.. he seems to be stuck in a rut whenever i hear them horns [Edited 3/20/09 0:02am]

actually after listening to the 10/10/08 cds...I absolutly love hearing prince strip it down and the harmonica man is fantastic...its refreshng to hear Prince interact with a differnt sound - his guitar and the harmonica sounds so fresh and new even with the old classics...we've had horns for so long now its hard to think of shows without them LOL..my favourite ONA show is the one that he played without horns - guess which one it is...

He's used horns since 1984, which is way longer than not using them.
I see your point though, just sayin', they're probably hear to stay, you know ![]()

A lot of the sax/horn playing in the last 10 years just sounds like a brass band I miss the Dirty Mind album synth sound the Purple Rain synth sound, the Condition of the Heart psychedelic synth sound, the synth sound prominent on the SOTT album,

In defense of the horns, Mike Phillips' blazing sax solo on 3121 is the highlight on the Indigo Nights CD. ![]()

Yeah it was hot in the America video, Eddie jumping down to the floor level and saxing it up The sax sound did wonders for Glamorous Life, Dear Michaelangelo, A Love Bizarre On Scarlet Pussy, there is like a 2 second sax riff, that is so nasty, but no other sax on the song. Eric Leads said Prince had him add a sax part to Ballad of Dorothy Parker, but didn't use it, even Eric said he was glad Prince didn't on that song

he has been using the same horn intro's and sections since musicology and the rock and roll hall of fame performance(maybe even before),
like for i feel for u, glamorous life, kiss etc.. and he was sitll doing them at the 02 as well. I like them at the start. but i feel his current band is very samey after a while. he is the only thing that is different in the performances. I'm very happy he's giving the horns a break. When I went to the Hotel Gansevoort show and I saw there were no horns, I got very happy. Don't get me wrong, I dig the horns but I love hearing more synths, that's the stuff that made me love P's music. Use that as your horn section. That's just my ![]() I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Horns are like the signature of funk, or like the dot of the ![]() ![]()
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
horns are signiture of old early funk sound just
like piano was a must have in ealy 50s rock'n;'roll music. but time goes on in the 80s we got a brand new kind of funk , funk without horns but still funky ,very funky(think 1999 album) funk envolved with prince. prince was bringing funk to a mainstreem scene when everybody was going synth pop or glam metal. and he was doing it with his own sound that didn't have horns. that sound was and still is great just as it was before. prince started adding realy horns in the 1984 and as time goes bye his concert arena sound become overproduced. with a few ocassions prince only managed to keep his raw side but because of horns replacing his original synth lines we got overproduceed sound. while it worked for a while ,now it got to become stale. i mean lets go crazy with horns or purple rain with horns. ![]() ![]() if prince is realy back to basic then we are in for a treat be sure about that.
