Was Prince Tweaked? Hi Everyone!
Earlier today, I was lurking around youtube looking at various videos when I noticed a video featuring Michael Jackson, Prince and James Brown. Curious, I clicked on the link. Now James performed fine and Michael showed off like usual and then Prince got onstage. What was that? He rode in on Big Chick's back... Prince seemed a little off and out of it that night, And I think he broke a string on his guitar. He didn't really sing--screamed really--and then as he exited the stage he turned over a light. He just seemed a little altered. What weas up with him? Was it just an off night in purple history or something else? Thanks. I love a Man who:

Obviously it wasn't rehearsed, wasn't his guitar, etc. I am sure at the end, he assumed the lamp was fastened to the stage and tried to brace himself on it. Taken altogether, it still seems to me that he is under the influence of something. Maybe he was just sick or something, who knows? In any case, a past drug use does not indicate his current condition. Look at me, Baby! What can I say? Ain't no other fish in the sea!

I could say the same about your random 'answer' that you've posted that's pretty much like in the thread i linked if u want to get down to being a from what i've scanned. Don't have nothing to do with me pointing out a thread with info. about the subject. yes i have the video of that performence as well, and it is brought up in the thread i linked. excuse me for trying to help the topic starter. here's another thread that talks about the same thing. http://prince.org/msg/7/295270 [Edited 3/14/09 20:52pm]

This has been debated ever since it happened.
Personally, I think he was drunk. Even in the early days, P was too much of a showman to fuck up that badly, ESPECIALLY in front of one of his idols. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Yeah... I haven't read the links, sorry, no time at the moment, but he didn't expect to be called up on the stage, MJ whispers in JB's ear, that this guy 'Prince' is in the audience. He didn't really know what to do! Anyway, apparently on the way home - he left straight away, he didn't speak at all, and just stared out of the window. I think we've all been in situations like that, no matter how talented someone is, if they're caught unawares with nothing to really do, it's going to be embarrassing, he'd probably had a glass of wine or something, he was relaxing watching a show...!!

I don't think MJ was his rival at that point though, (if ever)! I don't think most people at the show knew who Prince was, could be wrong though... [Edited 3/15/09 12:17pm]

A glass of wine isn't going to do that to most people. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

A glass of wine isn't going to do that to most people. No! But he didn't seem drunk or anything to me anyway, he just didn't seem to know where to go with it, or what side of himself to try and show, he just wasn't prepared. Like I said, he was upset on the journey home and just wanted to get out of there, if he'd been really out of it on something he wouldn't have cared, or taken it to heart.

At any rate, it's all speculation. Whether Lil Lady was on something or not, the fact that that video is still floating around after all these years has got to be embarassing. Maybe THAT'S what the whole Web Sherriff nonsense was about? He was trying to destry the evidence. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

i remember this topic being discussed before.
we should remember prince was very young at the time he, mj and james brown stood on stage together and performed. prince was in the presence of mr. james brown, his number one idol, and one of the performers who was a major influence in his musical beginnings. imo, i feel prince was overwhelmed and in a large amount of "awe" to be in the presence of (what he probably felt was) a musical mega-star. prince was caught unmasked and we all got to witness him being emotionally vulnerable and human. i love him for that. i'm sure many of us have been in the presense of someone we have greatly admired or (almost) worshipped and found ourselves totally "jellied out," on the verge of tears, speechless, stunned...etc. What, aren't performers allowed to have idols also? Live life as though each moment is as precious & beautiful as a rainbow after a spring rain. b positive, creative, kind, productive, resourceful & respectful of humankind, & feel free 2 know that U-R-A . i can feel it when u shine on me

I think a lot of the drunk/high debate comes from his having to be carried up to the stage by Big Chick, and weaving about a bit as he moved. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
