All aren't controlled by THE MAN, but they all want a perk or $ to play a song.

All of us should do our part and email station program directors and DEMAND they play the new material. Now, don't concentrate on your BIG stations (owned by Clear Channel or Cox), but your independent stations.

FWIW, it's illegal for stations or DJ's to accept $$ or other "perks" to play a song. It's not worth losing your job or the station license over. We can play *only* what is released... if only one song on the CD is released that's all we can play w/o risking fines. Bring me your disk if you want, I'll take it home with me, but I can't play it on the air. Yes, DJ's only play what they're told to play, but that's our *job* just like you only do what you're told to do at your job even if it isnt something you feel is right.

And calling or emailing over and over again to request something doesnt work either, if it's not released we can't play it yet, and if it is and the call log shows all the calls are coming from the same number all it does is piss off the DJ and PD. You call me 20 times during my request show from the same number and you can guarantee the song wont get played.

I totally understand that. I know it's illegal, but it still happens under the table. I know jocks and pds that do this on a regular basis. Sure, you don't see the money or the perk so-to-speak, but when you hear 20 Universal songs in a row, you know something is up.

I know jocks/personalities really don't have any control. They are there to do a shift and play what's on the log. Now, I do know some jocks that work on independent stations and they can play whatever they want (as long as it's within reason).

Also, I know a few people that work for an independent station in LA and they have been known for playing new and unreleased material. The PD there is as trustworthy as a rattlesnake, but he does play different music. He played lots of leaked tracks from Charlie Wilson's album before it was released. He continued to play them until a representative from his record company asked him not to. He didn't get in trouble, but he did get rep remanded.

If a song is "official" a station can play it. It doesn't have to be pressed on a cd anymore to get airplay. For instance, P's new album is coming out, he posted the songs on his official site for promotion and the songs can be played on air. If it came from a site other than his "official" site, there might be some repercussions, but in this case there probably won't be.

As for contacting the PD/MD at a station, I'm not saying BOMBARD them with calls or emails, but it is effective to request it to them. Personalities are there to push buttons and entertain the audience. I know it pisses off a personality to get a bunch of calls for a request (believe me...I've been there) but the powers that be must know what the people want. If the song doesn't take off, then let it die. It's all about getting the song added and a few introductory spins to let the audience know it's out there or it's coming.

Or "Disco Jellyfish" could possibly be a hidden bonus track like "Wasted Kisses" was on Newpower Soul.

OK, I promise I'll just say this once more...

"Discojelly" is simply an extended instrumental of "Chocolate Box".

...and on many releases remixes, extended versions, instrumentals, etc. are included as bonus tracks hidden or not. Not saying that's the case here, but it's at least a possibility.

why should he do that.. he could throw it on the site as a "free mp3" and get more revenue by getting people to sign up at his club

sounds like a smart idea to me
