I saw his "I wish U heaven" vid one evening when waiting
at a chinese restaurant for the take-away.

Over here in holland that's the section where they have
a tv and big fat man sit and drink beer whilst they wait
for their food to be prepared.

Saw the vid, went home, smashed my moneypiggy into bits
and went out to buy LoveSexy the following morning.

I was 11. My childhood was over at that moment lol

Instead I sat at home listening to an album with a nude
dude on the cover. Someone shoulda slapped me.

My mom and my brother who is ten years older than I love(d) prince when I was real young like 4or 5 when I can remember, and I used to record his music from the radio to a tape and when my grandma would baby sit I would play like I was prince and I was performing for her this was at like 6 or 7 LOL. My mom still loves him even his new stuff and shes over 50, my brother dont care he just has a reminisence for his young days and only will open his ears to the old stuffand only the albums not even recent performances of old stuff. BUT THATS A WHOLE NOTHER STORY

My best friend in high school re-introduced me to Prince back in 1985. I was listening to him before I knew what the hell he was talking about back in '78 because my uncle used to play the For You album all the time. Imagine my suprise when I got older and listened to Soft and Wet again. Anywho, my best friend was the strangest guy, but he was so cool to me. He was really into Prince and he would call me up and we would sit and listen to Prince songs together over the phone. I remember feeling like I had finally found something I could relate to and someplace to fit in. It's nothing like the feeling that someone understands. To this day, he and I are still best friends and we are also soulmates...much to the chargin of his current girlfriend.

I disocvered him one nite rummaging through my pantry looking for Captain Crunch. I told him hands off & he just gave me the infamous "funky face", clicked his high heels & vanished in a poof of purple smoke.

My older sisters use to listen to him. I first heard him in 1980 and then Purple Rain came out and my sisters would watch it 10 times a day. I kinda had no choice at that time, so now it's 2003 almost and I'm still digging him. Funny thing is that my sisters don't understand why I like him. Funny how things work.

I heard someone at this drive-in I was working at playing 1999 over and over. I loved it. Went to the record store, bought the album, and all his other releases...been doing that ever since!

When I was younger(8 or 9)I loved the songs Little Red Corvette and 1999, but never really knew who sang them.

Years later with Michael Jackson adorning my bedroom walls my best friends little sister would make fun of my Michael posters stating Prince is way finer, better singer, etc. I thought who's this Prince guy she's talking about? Purple Rain came out...Michael came down...Prince went up and I've been a devout fan for the last 18 years. He simply is the best musician EVER. I can't believe I just admitted to liking that freak (Michael Jackson) at one point in my life.

Phunk

Obviously I was a so-called "fan" when I heard his songs on the radio such as "1999", "Little Red Corvette" all the Purple rain songs, etc. But one day I was at my friends's house and he played "ADORE" on his stereo--from that moment on, I became obsessed with the man's music. I will never forget that day as that day forever changed me. And the crazy beautiful thing is that I'm not exaggeraitng.

I was very young at the time that I discovered his music. I was over a friends house and we were playing and her parents had alot of albums stacked on the floor I accidently knocked some over and saw his picture on the Controversy album, I kept staring at it and asked her who he was, she said that's Prince I said oh! she went on to say her parents don't let her listen to some of his stuff because it had too much sex ect... I said oh! yeh, you know I had to sneak a listen and that was the day I was abducted by his sound.
I'm just a junky for the sound.

4 me... when I was a kid, the song Delerious caught my ear when it was played on the radio.I loved the kazoo sound. Since then, I liked all of his singles that were played on radio. But it wasn't until SoTT that I became hooked... 4 life smile

The first song of his I liked was Diamonds and Pearls. I was only like 6 or 7 years old. I didn't know who it was by. I just knew it was by a guy with pretty eyes lol. But I started to really get interested when I heard '7' for the first time. I fell in love with it and I had to get it. So I got the song and my interest in Prince grew. Pretty much the rest is history. I think I'm a pretty young fan. But I love being one.

First heard/saw Prince when Casey Kasem played his first song on his weekly Top Ten TV show. Guess that means I can thank Casey Kasem for turning me on to Prince.

I was seven years old and my dad brought home "dirty mind" , my parents were very big prince fans (still are) lucky me, anyway I liked the music and everything (espicialy "uptown") but I didn't really care about him.I didn't really become a fan until "1999" came out, the first time I saw what he looked like, I was amazed.

Twas 1984 and my mom said I couldn't go see Purple Rain. So I snuck out and went anyway. Liked some of his music throughout the years but last year I caught Purple Rain again on BET and it hit me that this guy was the master! Now it is all I listen to. People say I have become obsessed. I dunno, maybe I am but his music cannot be compared to any other. Tis truly the best! Much Love- Rhonda

It was the library, who offered a few Prince cds. So I checked them out, and loved some of his work.

i was a huge MJ fan, like all 5 year olds in the early 80's, when my sister introduced me to "the funkier guy", as she put it. I didn't know what funk was, but i got schooled real early on. By the time i was 6 years old i had slowly adopted my sisters collection of Prince records and filed for joint custody! By 7 it was full out Prince obsession...poor MJ had fallen by the wayside...much to my parents dismay (he was always safer, eh)...a lifelong addiction, er, musical relationship had been forged.
btw...i eventually got back into MJ, but alas, the damage to our relationship was done...we'd never be the same. lol

Back when DIRTY MIND came out. At 1st I was like - U got 2 B kidding. The album cover - Please! - but over time I got hooked and have been ever since. I remember one time when I saw the 12'' inch for "Sign O the Times" in the record store. I didn't know Prince had anything coming out that year and when I saw that 12'' inch sitting in the rack I about had a heart attack I did a happy dance right there in the store.
