as much sa I like the horns - the have been 'overdone' for the last few years IMHO...
I absolutely love what Prince is doing now - bringing, as Jimi once said, the 'electric saxophone' to the front... prince has overloaded his live show with too many sounds (sampled or otherwise), its nice to hear things stripped back to the basics....funk rock!! I think Prince plays Miss You better than the Stones do LOL [Edited 3/17/09 23:42pm]

True, but back then it was just Eric and Atlanta Bliss. Not a whole bunch of horn players. They were a bit too dominant between 2001 and 2008. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Yes, I liked that incarnation of the NPG as well, and there was only one horn player most of the time ( Najee, Eric or Maceo) but with time, there were all kinds of horn players on the stage , starting in either 2001 or 2002, as the ONA tour and later Musicology ( 2004) progressed. Candy, Maceo, sometimes Eric, Greg, all kinds of horn players. I also didn´t like that big ass horn section during Act II. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! So I've just listened to Black Friday. I see what some posters have said about the lack of horns draining some of the material (most notably 3121), but on the whole, I think it was a great show. I really like the more stripped down sound, and hope he sticks with it for a while.
As for the setlist itself, I hope he adds more stuff from the new records once they're released, but I don't have a problem with the covers either. Some of them were amazing. I could do with a little less Shelby (by which I mean none. Backup is one thing, but I don't want to hear her take the lead).

I don't see that happening. I was actually wondering what happened to Atlanta Bliss the other day. Anyone know?

He should do shows differently if he wants to use horns, every show doesn't need horns. Go ahead and do an all out rock show, no horns, do a jazzy upbeat show-bring in the horns, do a funk show bring in 1 horn I agree, Shelby has a voice but it's too big for Prince music I say if you let her lead a song, don't do a cover, have her sing:Nasty Girls Neon Telephone, or something out of his playlist. But I'd rather not have Shelby. I think Prince is depending too much on big singers(vocally) and musicians who have their own sound Maceo included. I don't think a lot of the band member in the last 10 or more years play 'prince' music they play their own style to Prince music. Sheila & Bobby were the only drummers who could play the music and it sound like the song from the album. Michael Bland was just straight up hard, I think he played mostly heavy rock prior to Prince and John Blackwell too me plays a very impromtu sound like a lot of church drummers... sounds good, but it's not the song.

Actually, he's right: It's lifted from a track that the NPG Hornz did on one of their albums as The Hornheadz. Can't remember what that track is called at the moment, but Prince just cut it down and added it to the end of BJB. yup..i went to their site and ordered the cd...it's somewhere...i can't remember the name of the track.

Could you please elaborate a bit ? I´m not a musician and would like to know what´s so special about the sampled horns in that song. Oh wait...I think I got confused. I was talking about the horn breakdown near the end. that stuff is amazing. yeah he may have used samples for the body of the song however. but what I meant was all the counterpoint in the horn arrangement at the end. it's like all the horn players were soloing on their own but they somehow knew what the others were playing.
