there won't be anything except the 3 new albums on there and a lot of
streaming video files of concert footage.

as the year advances we might see some more exclusive downloads like
a few mp3 files and i'm guessing it will be at least4 or 5 months in
until *perhaps* we will see some unreleased tracks. maybe a few and
maybe even an entire cd's worth.

but i would NOT hold my breath for numerous cd's full of outtakes on
that site. and also, unreleased material does not constitute only an
array of those prized 1982-1987 outtakes. unreleased could mean some
cd's full of songs recorded between 1998 and 2004, for instance.

lastly, no one should simply expect from a small quote in an article
about people prepping some unreleased material, that it will be there
on the site when it opens up and that it will come for "free" with
the $ 77,- subscribtion charge.

when the site opens there will be nothing but lots of graphics, those
3 new albums, lots of video footage and perhaps a concert stream or
two of either individual songs or (unlikely) an entire show from the
past.

with the membership will come perks like pre-sale tickets, a retail
store with candles, perfume and ear wraps and the well known weird
blog entries about spiritual stuff.

all the rest is just fantasy. prince has never released any of his
treasured outtake material except for a little bit on crystal ball,
and about 2 or 3 things on the npgmc. like "splash" or a rehearsal
version of "the rebirth of the flesh".

why anyone would think that prince would, for 77 dollars, just put
10 albums worth of unreleased prime era music on his site is just
incromprehensible. we're talking about the same dude here, right?

they're dangling carrots, once again. i would be happy with just a
lot of new music. outtake release is a dream and it's kind of sad
that they would stoop to using it as a marketing ploy when it's all
still very much unsure wether anything of that material will ever
be released.

just look at what that little line has caused here on the org lol
there are going to be so many pissed off people come march 24th and
for no other reason that misleading information that was not even
misleading to begin with but which was butchered into something
beyond recognition by us, lol

The vault songs get so much hype … the reality is most of us have heard 100’s of unreleased bootlegs already, so we know what we would be getting. The only plus point would be the sound quality being perfect.

The Prince hype of “the best Revolution songs have not been released” is almost guaranteed as total nonsense …. There is no way that Prince is sitting on better songs than ‘Raspberry Beret’ …. If he had something that great in the vault already why would we have to be tortured with albums like Planet Earth.

The idea of all these amazing outtakes that we have never heard is exciting …. But the reality is I think we have heard most of it already…. And what we have not heard is probably quite interesting… but that’s about it. The few surprises on the Crystal Ball album did not exactly blow people away. (‘Poom Poom’ anyone?)

Prince’s career has been built on the hype that he is a workaholic musical genius with 1000’s of songs already recorded …. For me he’s a talented dude, but the last 15+ years musical output has been poor to even embarrassingly bad at times which really proves that hype has played a key role in his career. That 5 year period in the mid to late 1980’s he was really something special …. But since then he has not really come up with anything that would warrant the title ‘MUSICAL GENIUS’.

I agree with almost all of this...but there have been some shreds of life...some REALLY great songs since that period...the Gold Experience has some great songs on it...but some of the best were left off of it for some unknown reason.... The symbol album had some really good stuff... I'd say in the past 5 years or so though..that there has been nothing at all that has impressed me in the least...we all come back because we all hope that maybe...just maybe this time...this album will be the one...I'll be there...

I agree of course that there has been a few 'shreds of life' ... but it's slim pickings. The two albums you mentioned were recorded over 15 years ago remember. There are the odd moments of brilliance, but it’s a little like watching Ali fight in 1979-80 …. He’s just a shadow of his former self.

Not to stray from the topic though ... my main point was the vault, and if there is really anything worthwhile hearing in it.

Your last line hit the nail on the head ... 'we all live in hope'

10 Albums??? falloff Thoughts of "The Chocolate Invasion 7 CD set - coming soon!!" came to mind when I read that. I will not hold my breath for 10 albums, but I'll be glad if we do get enough new songs (excluding the Lotusflow3r set) to at least fill one album this year.

Well I think the best Prince And The Revolution songs are Witness 4 The Prosecution and All My My Dreams. They still remain unreleased.

As much as I would love for Prince to put up all that music, in reality, it would be really silly for Prince to release 10 unreleased CDs on that website. That's mainly because there would be a "fan" or 2 on there that would try and rip the music from the site and then think it would be his or her "duty" to put that music onto a torrent site and then think they are doing a service for those who aren't members or some other average Joe when in the end, it would wind up hurting the members the most cause that well of "new" or unreleased music would dry up with a quickness and then even more people would complain. That's all the more reason why I think there won't be all this new music on there, at least not at once if at all. Maybe I'm off here but I could just see some of this stuff going to God knows what kind of sites if that happens, but if Prince does this, then he does it. We will see starting exactly 1 week from today.

Prince always wants to make such a big deal out of his unreleased recordings (that we have mostly all already heard anyway).

Artists such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen seem to be constantly releasing 'Bootleg Series', 'Basement tapes' 'Rare tracks' etc.

It's really not rocket science .... there are probably 100,000 hardcore fans max that would be more than happy to hand over $$ for unreleased and rare tracks (without the JW edits). These are the type of fans (like myself) who are not going to go searching for the torrent files on the web ... we just want to buy a few cd's without having to join websites and become JW's.

I seem to remember reading an interview not too long ago with Alan Leeds and i'm sure he said something along the lines of 'Prince having lack of vision when it comes to legacy material'. So true !!

Back in the 1980's the hype around Prince kind of worked, he was the man ! but in 2009 so little people really care about new music from Prince because for so long the music has just been 'ok'.

He should drop the hype and goofy websites and release or make available some music in a normal manner.

NPGMC teased us with the possibility of purple rain outtakes, "roadhouse garden" and the possibility of prince doing "rare fan favorites" in vegas. none of these things happened. now we're getting teased with ten never-before heard albums. of course i would LOVE it if he followed through on this, but i've been well trained not to expect anything, especially if prince's folks dangle it in front of my face like a carrot.

It's just a teaser. 10 albums seem a lot.

Prince & The Band & Turn me loose should be donwloadable for new suscribers.

He will have to make the deal interesting for year 2 though with maybe one or two of those 10 albums..

Okay so maybe it's okay for Prince to do it his way (after all he has earnt his stardom and he always has been a little mysterious (great when you're a teen, not so when you're nearly 40: the difference between childlike and childish springs to mind)) but aren't you glad other artists just do it the normal way. I really couldn't commit the time to go chasing all the other bands I like if they promoted themselves in such a manner.

I'm just a simple guy who likes a new album in the shops followed by a tour and then a festival appearance. Thank God for the Kaisers!

what i don't understand is why he can't just make a boxset of some
of his better unreleased material. not like crystal ball but more
like these miles davis "complete sessions" releases. they come with
extensive photographic outtakes and liner notes/information on the
songs. all packaged beautifully with 4, 5, 6 cd's filled to the brim
with material.

2 of these sets, each 5 discs, could be released quite easily. there
must be a market equally big for prince outtakes than there is for
the umpteenth miles re-issue. and these boxsets are simply released
to stores without all the hoopla or drama that comes with prince and
his releases.

so it can't be THAT hard to pull off.

don't get me wrong, if the way to get my hands on lots of unreleased
material is through his new website as downloads, i'm ok with that.
but i don't understand why he wouldn't be able to compile a few box
sets of material and release them as nice, beautiful items that are
gonna stand out more than just downloads on a gaudy website.

i know. it's such a shame. especially since prince's back catalogue would
lend itself so extremely well for this kind of treatment. every one of
his original WB albums could receive this treatment with bonus discs that
included bsides and remix, live tracks of each album track and lots of
unheard/unreleased material from the period, including different takes
and instrumentals of the songs on the original album as well as all the
stuff that didn't fit with the vibe or was deemed too weird by WB.

where lots of artists have to reach and include loads of filler to put
out such boxed sets, prince would easily fill up 3 disc for each album
out of his 80's period. hell, 4 more likely if you'd include the whole
albums "live".

No one seems to realize the extent of the "vault" dilemma. With such content,
who's to say the best way to "deliver" this to worthy recipients?

Give Prince a break , he's got a alot to consider...keep your greedy paws to yourselves..along with the negative attitudes.

Don't you think that will happen one day? I know we all WANT it to, but I think Prince will more than willingly pimp out his unreleased stuff when the time is right. I'm sure it will be on his terms of course, but I doubt very much he intends just to let it gather dust forever.
