I am so sick of that excuse! If anyone but Prince had tried that, everyone who throws out that excuse would have had their heads on a platter mounted on the walls of the BBB and y'all know it!

If "lifetime membership" meant the "lifetime of the club" by right and I do believe, by law, it should have said that plainly and clearly, on the sign up page!

It did not because if it had, with everyone knowing Prince and his impulses, many would not have signed up for it, including myself! I was under the impression that Prince was finally satisfied with his site and would do all the stuff that he is "alluding" to doing now, on that site and charge extra fees and such as updates and things warranted because we already had lifetime memberships.

He closed the club because he was being sued by that other company for using NPG, that had nothing to do with Prince's consumers, so we should have been giving some type of warning. We could have made efforts to back up the stuff that we'd already paid him for but chose to come to his site to listen to because that boosted his ranking and we figured the club would always be there because we had lifetime memberships.

I'm not joining his site, I wouldn't care if he made free at this point but for the people who are not on my level of disgust with his antics, the least he could do for the sake of good business practices is give them a 25.00 discount on the new fee. The most he could do is honor their lifetime memberships! Sheesh, it's not rocket science but it is the excuse makers that make it easy for him to shit on his fans without regret. I would know, I used to be one!

The lifetime membership was for the NPGMC and not the Lotusflow3r website. If you can´t see that, that´s your problem.
The big problem with obsessed ex-fans like you is that you think Prince owes us something. He owes us absolutely nothing. We can buy his albums, join his website, go to his concerts or not.

Where exactly are you getting this assumption from?

Either way, don't you think its morally wrong to cancel a club when you have been taking new lifetime membership fees in the same week?

Exactly. He isn't loosing any money by giving previous members the discount. He will make money hand over fist with album sales, tickets sales, downloads etc. He cuts alot of his cost down but putting up songs to download, etc cutting out the "middle" man. Yes it is the lifetime of the site, but still putting them up and taking them down really isn't very nice. All I can say now is at least is it a yearly membership and not a "lifetime" one.
Indecision may or may not be a problem

Boo hoo. He doesn't owe us anything, and he is free to do as he pleases.

Besides 90% of the time he leaves us waiting for the start of the show and it's the diehards standing on their feet for 3-4 hours that suffer the most...But the main thing is still the namechange. He flat out lied when he said he changed to the symbol for spiritual reasons (and I fully understood and supported that decision) and then he admits it was because of contract reasons that he changed...He lied to us fans and many of us defended him...That I took personally. He should have been honest from the start on that one...

This isn't a thread for bellyaching. But, there seems to be some consternation about folks who feel like Prince has broken promises to his fan base. Whether it's because he didn't really retire or didn't really stop touring lol or, honestly, about stuff folks shelled out money for but never received, list it here.

Mine is simple:

ROADHOUSE GARDEN.

he promised you ROUDHOUSE GARDEN?

New Prince & The Revolution

10/02/1998 6:00 PM, Yahoo! Music
Craig Rosen

(10/2/98, 3 p.m. PDT) - According to the Artist Formerly Known As Prince's love4oneanother website, a new album by Prince & the Revolution--with the working title Roadhouse Garden--will be released on NPG Records.

The site claims that the Artist has been "secretly doing overdubs and even offered 2 let Wendy & Lisa handle some co-production chores." The album, according to the site, will include several songs left unfinished with the Revolution imploded in the '80s, as well as several new cuts. The Artist even spoke to the website about the project in his usual Princely dialect. "Eye am approaching this like a new record, as tho the band never split because in spirit, eye doubt we ever did." In addition, the Artist hinted about resurrecting the Revolution. "The Newpower Soul Festival is turning in2 a musical commune--all are welcome!" Saxophonist Candy Dulfer recently joined the NPG in New York, and Rosie Gaines is expected to join the band in San Francisco. "So imagine Shelia E., Lisa and Wendy in the mix?!" the Artist added. "Rhonda [Smith, NPG bassist] and eye trip on it many nights!"

okay back on topic I can say that the 7CD sampler was to be released. why it didn't get released is beyond me but it was never promised biggrin

My take on the 7CD sampler set is this....

Whilst widely advertised and promoted I think Prince soon realised that with royalty free samples out there taken from his hits he was in fact reducing a possible revenue stream in the future, and also losing approval of whom sampled his work and for what purpose.

At the end of the day as much as I wanted that set, it was a good decision not to release it.

eye fully agree that once a venture is considered finished as in "it has reached its capabilities and feels it can no longer progress," then the lifetime is over. eye think it is good practice 2 reimbursed those who didn't get any value out of joining. say, they had just joined less than a month ago and haven't gotten any dl's or tickets that would amount in the benefit of joining. 4 example, eye joined Controversy... rec'd issues 41, 42 & 43 and then an unexpected closure, em made up the difference with three older issues. however, that is personal choice. in business, there is no binding CONtract that says a closed business must repay anything, esp. on an open end deal such as "lifetime." Whose lifetime, yours, the site, Prince. What if Prince had died. Would u still feel disenfranchised against? Now with that said, eye'm so surprised no one has mentioned the NPG Magazine. It initially was subscribed 2 me at six bi-monthly issues a year. It ran its course of two years and eye got the final issue (#4). Needless 2 say, eye never got #2 in the mail until years later, eye got a good deal on ebay. However, let's say that one was lost in the mail. Did anyone ever get issues 5 and 6?
u asked me if eye heart u, it's automatic

I thought that was available at some point?

it must have been, cause most of it was circulating on p2p a few years back.

I don't believe it's ever been available in any form. It was never pressed. It would have been fun, but probably not a great business decision if it had been released, as Swa said.

I hate to say it but Roadhouse, Crystal Ball II, or even Purple Rain Anniv edition (feat. alternate versions and outtakes) will never see the light of day - these are his trump card - he knows they are what people have wanted for many years - teases us with the possibility they may get released, generates hype, but then decides to shelve, adding to his now 'questionable' reputation of a vault full of classics dating back to 1980. These were albums announced that should've come to fruition.
[Edited 3/15/09 17:13pm]

I've heard a few hundred songs from the vault, and there's some outstanding material in there that would make most artists weep with jealousy.

-pre-listening sessions of rainbow children in paisley park
-the montreux jazz festival experience with aftershow
-21 nights in london inkl. aftershows
-watching purple rain in the cinema the first time
