As i hear it The Morning after would work rather fine after the more bluesy, guitar-soloing on Crimson and Clover.

It would light up the mood a bit, and would be a nice 'bridge' to the pop-soul of 4ever.

And hey, the album isnt THAT long itself allready.

He's trying to con people into buying the 77 dollar membership and the 12 dollar album. That's why =)

The Morning After is such a cool song. It's a pop gem. With it's drum blast opening, Vanity 6 meets The Monkees keyboard foundation, pretty guitar fills and fun lyrics, it's much needed a blast from the Paisley past.

I'm sold.

I find it a charming, but way too short pop ditty.

In that sense it reminds of All the midnights in the world.

They might be my favourite kind of songs Prince released this decade: All the midnights in the world, The Morning After and (despite its corny lyrics) Resolution.

Songs that built further on earlier examples like Manic Monday, Raspberry Beret and Starfish and Coffee, but somehow they still have a refreshing sound, breezy, kinda quirky, sounding lightweight at first, but actually well composed little pop-songs.

$89 is more than $77

When I heard that the digital and retail configurations of LotusFlow3r would be different by one track, I figured I'd end up burning a copy with both "The Morning After" AND "Crimson & Clover" on it as my "official" version. I'm surprised, but it turns out that I like "TMA" well enough on its on merits -- but NOT on LotusFlow3r. It sounds out of place to me -- which takes some doing on an album as eclectic as this. Now, I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the retail version where "C&C" is slotted into what feels like its rightful place while the other track is dropped altogether.

Jeez - it inst that complicated. THis is the first time Prince has ever released an album that had 2 versions in the tracklist. Other artists in various genres have been releasing import albums with bonus or unique tracks for years. If you were hardcore, you bought both to get everything. I mean each album is only costing you about $4 at Target. What other artist - legendary or not - has ever offered new material this cheap?

Besides, what major retailer is going to carry a set liek that without some exclusivity to push sales? If it was the same album on the download, Target wouldnt have the same incentive to enter a distribution deal with Prince.

For all the talk about the net replacing music stores, you cant name a major commercial success that wasnt readily available on the shelf at Best Buy or Target or Walmart or Circuit City or some combination of these stores. If the albums were just on his website there would be crying about how difficult it is to get them and burn CDs. In fact, there is already some grumbling about it being only at Target.

The song is pretty good and i think would have been a good fit on Planet Earth, Crimson works better on Lotusflow3r.

It's from 2006 so a wonder if it was considered for Planet Earth.

How exactly would the royalties for Crimson & Clover be paid if it were available on the website...?

Would P have to fork up a royalty based on each $77 subscription...?
Would it be based on how many times Lotusflow3r was DL'd..?
Just how much of the $77 is considered revenue from the album sales..?
Since he is using his own site and not a site like itunes.. can royalties even be counted...?


Its a lot easier just to pay royalties based on the sale of a $12 album easily tracked through target, than trying to figure out compensation based on all the variables which come with the $77 subscription.

To make the hardcore fans buy the same thing twice. They pay for the digital download on Tuesday and the go to Target on Sunday because it has something new still, even though they do not like the packaging.
