Prince Collectors There's just so much stuff out there that you could want ie vinyl, cd's, ltd editions, memorabilia, (bootlegs)...
So do you have a particular area that you concentrate on (if so why did you choose it?) or are you trying to accomplish the impossible task of owning everything? . [Edited 3/10/09 16:59pm] Some people are like Slinkies...

12" vinyl singles! Not 100% sure why Oh and all the US CD's. I do get CD singles from time to time. [Edited 3/10/09 17:11pm] Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

I'm now trying to round out vinyl versions of albums post-Graffiti Bridge.
I was collecting magazines with Prince on the cover. They go back now over 20 years. I missed the Ebony edition last year. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

If I see something that I don't have ,I've gotta get it, it's terrible, like I get obsessed and can't stop until I have it.

Music. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I focus mainly and heavily on the concert posters.
The ones advertising the actual shows. I have over 60 different ones so far, and wanting to add as many as I can find that I don't already have.

I focus mainly on music, don't worry much about print items or other things, unless I find things for a good price.
For a few years I focused on all 12 inch singles. Then I got some interesting things including the Gett Off promo and a Purple Rain tape-to-tape reel given to a radio station in Mpls. I have a number of tour books and magazines, but I would rarely work hard at getting them. I also spent a bit of time collecting things that could be displayed in my Prince room that I had in Minnesota. I've stopped collecting, but have never sold anything in the collection. I'm pretty proud of the collection, although after seeing other collections I realize that I'm in the minor leagues.

Just music on CDs and video on DVD. That's what it's all about as far as I'm concerned. Soundboard and outtake bootlegs, every official release of an album, soundtrack cut, CD-single, compilation CD, etc. I won't buy every version of a released album or track unless it's a different mix or length. I don't need the same thing from 4 different continents, just to complete a collection.
I'll pick up a magazine if there's a decent article in it about Purps. I have a few books, too - but I'm more into the details of songs and albums and not so much about the tabloid stuff. Over the years I've picked up a Cloud guitar, a clock, a life-size store standup of P during the Emancipation period, tour books and other ephemera that I've fallen ass-backwards into. I've been lucky enough to receive some Prince items due to my line of work. I have a butt-load of vinyl records because that's what there was back in the day. I've kept them only for the art, if not the fact that they sound better than the currently non-remastered CDs. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

i have some stuff i kept for years like the blenheim palace cancelled gig tix and the diamonds and pearls tour programme and tix, i just added to the blenheim palace tix by buying a newspaper cutting of an advert for the show, so i can frame them together.
I also now have a photo of prince and a backing singer backstage at one of his uk gigs circa 92. they are posing for the pic sitting on a table. my dad gave me this and its signed by his singer. He knew her. I mostly collect magazines and comics with prince on the front cover, i just got one with mayte on it too and the words say about his new wife and new baby. I collect them because im interested in the articles, its like a small snapshot of history. I intend to display it all when i get my office redone. I also think it will be interesting for my kids when they are older, I also have some original adam ant tour stuff and comics from the time with him in like look-in and smash hits. my dad collects stuff i guess i get it from him. By the way if anyone has a '3 chains o gold' comic to sell orgnote me! [Edited 3/11/09 2:36am] walk with crooked shoes www.myspace/syblepurplelishous

I collect the music.
I collect the officially released stuff like CD-singles, but don't care if it's a european or US printing. I don't collect promos - that's too expensive for me. I also collect demos and outtakes, of course, but I think I have it all by now. And live bootlegs from before 1996. I'm also working on replacing my Wendy & Lisa 12 inches with CD-singles. Say, if someone has some extra Wendy & Lisa CD-singles, I'll trade with my extra Little Red Corvette (Dance Mix)/1999 3" CD-single. Org-note me. Just the CDs, DVDs, and tourbooks from all the tours I've attended (also Emancipation lyric book and NeoManifesto). The odd paperback book and UK magazine from the 1990s and 2004ish. That's about it. Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I like to collect the colored vinyl LPs. Such as the purple wax Purple Rain, gold wax Gold Experience. I am looking for the peach marble colored wax of The Black album right now. I do also like to collect all the extended 12" singles. I think the next thing I am gonna move onto will be the picture discs. I do have one question though, I think I have heard on here that the Sign 'O' the Times LP sounds much better than the cd version. Is this true? If so is it the mastering?

People who collect all the music, do you include stuff written and produced by Prince, but performed by other artists. The Time etc?

I used to collect any and everything. Several years ago I started focusing on posters. I do not have an exact count, but did a quick count recently and I have well over 500 different ones.

The normal 2-record vinyl set for SOTT does indeed sound better than the CD, it think it's just to do with the 'wide' grooves in the vinyl, it's louder, and warmer sounding. The mastering on the CD is amongst the worst out there. Compare SOTT CD, with Stevie's 'Songs In The Key Of Life', pop both CD's in and hear the sound difference, it's criminal. SOTT needs remastering desperately. And that Peach marbled Black album?, don't bother. Bootleg, unless you really want it that bad, but it's not official.
