didn't prince learn his lesson from emancipation? NEVER LEAD OFF A PROJECT WITH A COVER VERSION ..sigh

The lesson to be learned there was never lead off a project with a schmaltzy BALLAD. He was still at it with Rave and 3121.

C&C would make a great lead single as it screams Prince rock ballad, a la, 'Purple Rain'.

i know xactly what u mean and i agree ..sans leading this project off with crimson and clover ..imo someone at prince's career stage shouldn't release a cover version as a lead single, regardless how good it may b, because he'll just b looked at as like how rod stewart, barry manillow r doing just covers..

let it b a original rocker/funk tune but enough with the cover/ballad lead in
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

This actually isn't a bad choice for lead off single.

The song is easily recognized, by all ages. It very likely may generate interest, not only in how Prince remakes the song, but in all 3 cds.

I think "Colonized Mind" would work better as a lead single just because it sounds fresher and more innovative. It's more of an attention grabber and several non-fans who've heard me play it were drawn towards it.

Covering an old song is just going to cement the idea in people's minds of prince being old and tired I think - and I LIKE C&C. Having said that, i can't imagine R&B radio really picking up either one of them.

Very true, some people in the Music Industry are impressed with Colonized Mind and think he is back on form.

Hahaha! And these people would be?

I know I sound like a broken record people, but when are you people going to learn that Prince isn't ever going to have a hit single again? Doesn't mean he's not still producing quality work, but it's just not going to happen. He's past that point in his career. So stop wasting your time worrying about it!

Very cool news! Let's hope tidbits like this continue to roll in.

Ifigured C&C would be the first real single and agree with many that Colonized Mind is my choice but for the general public this is a great choice. I've played it for many non-fans and they all liked it quite a bit and they instantly recognized it and all liked his mash up with Wild Thing although could not quite recognize that song but in the end were moving to it!

I guess we also now know what one of the songs will be that he plays on Leno.smile
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Oh lord, it gets better. Guess what? I'm in the industry too: Crimson & Clover isn't going anywhere. Not releasing any singles at all will have the same effect on the success of these albums.

And again, I'm personally excited about this albums (and am hoping for a leak soon), but to think that Prince is gonna get significant radio play in 2009 is just silly.

Proof? Alphabet St was filmed in one day? Why cause he literally gave the producer same day notice to do it. Hence why its so cheesy and stupid.

hated? heck, he directed most of his videos. he has tons of videos that he started and scrapped, that we've never seen. i think he LOVES making videos. i just think he hates being told which videos to make, and how they should look.

I'm not worried about it at all. Never have been. I don't even listen to the radio. We're just talkin' here.

And for the record, "these people" would be several of my music appreciating friends (some of whom don't even like Prince), Steve Jones, several industry insiders, and myself; a lifelong fan who thinks he's missed the mark more than he's hit it over the past several years.

Who cares? Anyone that I know that enjoys music NEVER listens to the radio. i think what some of the people here are saying is just that they derive a certain measure of satisfaction whenever someone - especially someone with more than a passing interest in actual music - gets a taste of something fresh and good from Prince. Typically, as most of us know, he tends to bury the real gems inside of aftershows, bootlegs, b-sides and obscure one offs.

A lot of people who appreciate real guitar virtuosity, for instance, have never heard "Joy in Repetition" from "It Aint Over" or seen the R&R Hall of Fame performance.

I care fuck all about charts. I hardly ever listen to the radio. But I would feel...um...vindicated on some level if Prince caught the ear of enough disinterested people to make them re-assess their opinion of his work; and my taste for thinking he's brilliant.
