mplsound would have been a fine title 4... ... a tribute album featuring the best and most prominent songs that make u feel like "dayum, that sounds like Prince".
My song list doesn't include the usual suspects like Ready for the World. Instead, it begins roughly estimated after the year 2000. Special Feeling - P Diddy: typical Linn kickdrum, snare and rimshot. I also hear Morris Day's voice as well as Prince's trademark "wow"-scream. "Last Night" from the same album ("Press Play") doesn't use typical mpls sound elements, but the basic drum beat sounds somehow similar to "Raspberry Beret". Skin - R Kelly: Kells discoveres the Linn rimshot. Dito for the following song "Screamer". Until the end of Time - Justin Timberlake: not only one of the most felicitous use of the typical Minneapolis sound, but the eschatological lyrics also remind me of an ever recurring motif throughout Prince's musical career. Slow Dance - Keri Hilson: contemporary R'n'B with a Minnepolis flavor, especially for the Linn snare and kickdrum. Do it - Nelly Furtado: Timbaland (?) likes MPLS. No doubt about that. How does it feel - D'Angelo: brilliantly captures the sound and feeling of "Do me baby" and other songs from the early 80s. Whatever You Want - Brian McKnight: samples "The beautiful ones" - a little sloppy I might add. Fast Car - The Dream: mid 80s Minneapolis sound all over it. The title and lyrics of that song are also reminiscent of that metaphor 'pretty/fast car' for 'pretty/sexy woman' in ever so many songs by Prince. Joysticc - 213: Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G. pay homage 2 the man. Peace of Mind - Suga Free: we hear some Nasty Girl as well as Erotic City. Or like Quentin B. Huff said it "Even when you’re in Cali, you can never go wrong with Minneapolis Funk" This list is far from being complete. Please add some more...

Since we're adding rap to this list, I'll add "Which One Of You" from Snoop Dogg from The Blue Carpet Treatment. It sounds like Lady Cab Driver meets The Time. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Dance with Yesterday - Joi: her tribute to Prince, co-written & co-produced by Robert Bacon - one of the best guitarist there is imho. Also not to forget Joi's fabulous Missing you which features a sample of "Sexy dancer".
Promise - Ciara: another example 4 "current R'n'B meets Minneapolis" I can't wait - Jaguar Wright feat. Bilal: mid 80s Linn drum patterns thoroughly well mimicked. Production by ?uestlove & James Poyser. In My Dreams - Robin Thicke: that song was scrapped from the otherwise excellent "The Evolution of Robin Thicke" album, maybe because it sounds a little half-baked? Anyway, guitar, falsetto, melody - it all is reminiscent of Prince.
