90% of his old videos are performance clips or soundstage shots,
or just generally weird (in a bad way) footage.

they're all ok and serve their purpose but prince has never been

ever since emancipation he's shot some very good ones that had a
bit more attention to detail and narrative.

my fav ones are still "i wish u heaven" and "gett off" although
the ones for "the greatest romance" and "te amo corazon" looked
very beautiful too.

the worst one is probably everything from the 1999 album, people
seem to love those clips but i sincerely dislike them for some
reason. i also hate the purple rain video.

the one for "the most beautiful girl in the world" is horrible,
especially with prince in that red matador suit with lace trim
wearing a ton of make up, mf'in heavy eyeliner and a haircut
that makes him look like a liza minelli drag queen. ewwwww.

i love that video! it's cheesy and low-budget, but that's part of why i love it. same with the 'come on' video. it's beyond cheap, but that's part of what makes it so fun to me. i like seeing the ragged edges almost more than i like watching a super-polished video like "u got the look" or "7".

my least favorite prince videos are the lame ones where it's just the words, like the SOTT video or the when 2 R in love video. if i wanted to read a book, i'd go to school.

Prince has completely spoiled us with terrible videos.



GOLD from the GOLD EXPERIENCE: holy Jonas brothers, what the hell was that?

the conveyor belt and the gold glitter
and the girl with the squiggle on her face. oh.my.

BATDANCE: It looked like a Goth Club after 'last call'.

i like that video, it was nice for it's time altho the batman's
look kind of low budget compared to the jokers

BLACK SWEAT: If you're working up a black sweat, at least do SOMETHING.



Diamonds and Pearls: SWEAR TO GOD, I thought Barry Manillo was going to pop out and help him sing the song.

it was a bit odd to see him do the gett off video and the cream
video and go straight to the diamonds and pearls one, blowing bubbles with
kids. it's a real WTF?! moment


The Holy River: It looked like a Student film. A community college student film.

imagine someone describing it to you: "there's big prince holding
little prince in his hand and there's a waterfall..." get the picture? lol

Thieves in the Temple: It's not terrible at first. But once the extended version starts kicking in, it gets terrible. I mean, C&C Music Factory terrible.

i love this video. everyone got hysterical at the mtv buttless pants
but he already wore his ass out in full sight in this video. it's more subtle
but his cheeks are showing all the way for sure, lol. the extended version is
so horrible it's good. but perhaps that's due to the music because the music on
the extended portion is sheer heaven to me

Mountains: Although my adoration for the song never diminishes, the video is so incredibly terrible, I don't even know where to begin. First, WHAT IS THAT OUTFIT? During what time period and in what country did men dress like that? That's an ass kicking BEGGING to take place in my neighborhood. The poorly done blue-screen affects added to the tackiness of the video. Believe it or not, even though it's terrible, I love the video

i never watch that video out of fear it might spoil the song for
me, which is brilliant on it's own and could only be tainted by that tragedy
that passes for a video


Betcha By Golly Wow: Prince is relentless with the cringe factor here. I've seen ABBA videos that were less sugary than this thing.

the intro is ok with him pumping gass. it's hysterical to be honest.
the rest is not too easy on the eyes. the ballet dancers. the flute player. he
could not have promoted "emancipation" worse if he'd held a press conference
on national tv stating "don't buy this album, it's a turd". that would have
been better promotion than releasing this with THAT video as a lead single


Paisley Park: Holy Homemade movie, Batman.

i always imagine it is filmed through his see through lacy
underpants, that makes it half watchable

All the Controversy & 1999 videos: Little Red Corvette is the only one I can tolerate of the bunch. Prince would later perfect the lip-syncing-on-stage music video with U got the Look and ICNTPYM from SOTT. But early on, it was like watching back to back episodes of Solid Gold.

i never get why people love these vids so much. perhaps it's because
jill and lisa strike such whorish poses. i could see the appeal of that. but
the rest is just a big pile of nothing much at all


I wanna Be Your Lover: Released around the same time as the original Alien, The Thing, and Halloween, I truly believe Prince's video closely rivals all of them for scream factor.
