What is Coda??

I know I'm dumb but please help me out. Is that the part of the song at the end (around the 6 minute mark) when you think the song is over and then he brings it back??
Whatever it is, it´s got to be PHUNKy!!!

Word: co·da
Pronunciation: 'kO-da
Function: noun
Listen

1 a : a concluding musical section that is formally distinct from the main structure

b : a concluding part of a literary or dramatic work

2 : something that serves to round out, conclude, or summarize yet has its own interest

Led-Zeppelin Released November 19, 1982 an album with this name to serve as a completion of work for the band's carreer after drummer John Bonham's death on September 25th, 1980.

Coda, released in 1982 after the breakup of the band, was the result of a trawl through the studio archives in search of leftover material. In fact, they had already used up almost all of the good stuff; this was Led Zeppelin's only disappointing album. Nevertheless, even relatively poor material by Led Zeppelin is decent and some tracks here are classic, notably "Poor Tom," "Ozone Baby," and "Wearing and Tearing." The latter, one of three outtakes from the In Through the Out Door sessions, features a particularly high-octane blend of stripped-down, grungy rock & roll and is considered their response to the then-burgeoning punk movement. With so little studio material available, live versions of "I Can't Quit You Babe" and "We're Gonna Groove" from 1970 flesh out the set; the former features some blistering playing. --James Swift

That band's sound is still timeless.
I brushed off the 'ol 4-CD box set the other night after years of being on the shelf. Don't care for the hits anymore but the rest still kicks my rear.

And no Phunk, you are not dumb.

That was a good question. I figured it out when I bought that album. I looked it up in the dictionary when i got home. Cause Bonzo's Montreaux kicked my butt over my shoulders.

So...
Coda being a noun.

Your question should read: "What is a Coda?"

First coda in Prince music that came to my mind...the last couple of seconds of "U Got The Look"...I'm sure there's more...

There are loads, but many are just concluding parts to the song rather than having something distinct and musically different to conclude the song

The very best example of a distinct Coda that comes immediately to mind is 'The Rainbow Children' - reference to which possibly prompted this question.

Yamomma is right; it's certainly not a dumb question. If you don't know you just don't know.

Langebleu pointed out the one from the title track of TRC, then there's the famous piano coda from Derek & The Dominoes' "Layla."

Yup. It's "Joris", he's a cross between a jack russel and
a german sheppard dog. He's 1.5 years old now.

He comes to work with me every day, so as a matter of fact
he's asleep underneath the desk right now...

Phunk

Thanks yamomma, for educating another fellow P fan! I used to dig Zeppelin hard in high school, and I knew I had heard the word 'coda' before, but I couldn't quite place it. Your articulate description is much appreciated.
