Prince is a Jehovah's Witness: ONA LIVE proof? In the wonderful photobook/linear notes that accompany the new boxset there are many snippets of press reviews included. One of them very clearly makes mention of Prince's conversion to Jehovah's Witness. My question is this- Would Prince or NPG allow this quote to be included if it weren't the truth? "New Power slide...."

Hey Skywalker, didn't Yoda tell you that fear is the path to the Dark Side?

Well look at it this way, the next time someone gets into a heated debate over the JW influence in P's music, and a fam flips out and says "nowhere does it say Prince is actually a JW, he's just studying them", at least heres some pretty solid proof otherwise.

his message just does not hit me at all! I still crush JW's heads when they stand at my door!

There is enough evidence in the music. Further 'proof' really isn't needed.

That same quote, though, also says that "many" of the fans "definitely missed" his more outrageous stage antics...so I guess you could also ask do Prince and the NPG really believe that part of the quote to be true, that "many an attending fan" were disappointed with the performance??... Btw, I think it's been obvious for a long time now that Prince is into the whole JW thing, even if he's not officially a member...

we are all "witnesses" to what we believe in anyway. Should we not let a brother live his life and go on doing what he's doing without picking apart his personal matters? Do u wonder about what your bank teller or the person behind the voice in some commercial believes in? Music is the reason any of u "know" of Prince, so let's let it be and be happy... each step along the path leads to new inspiration in music, so venture on and see what comes next. Just relax and enjoy and ponder instead what _U_ are a witness to.

Ya know, I think you are absoultely right...I was to be one of those folks who used to care about Prince's personal life and I was initially upset about the whole JW thing(how can someone say if you are not part of their religion, you're going to hell?)...but I got over it and now concentrate only on the music. It was kinda hard because you expect so much out of someone you look up to. You really can't put people up on pedestals cuz they'll let you down over and over again.

I think if people like his stuff, they should not worry about what influences him. His life is his and there is a lot worst he could be doing with it. By the way it is very interesting that you think JW'S would tell you that you are going to hell. JW's do not beleive in a hell, or an after life. Ecclesiastes 9:5 says;" For the living are conscious that they will die, but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
I just want to hear good music. I have read so much misinformation on JW's while on this site, and it is obvious that many are not interested in learning what they really stand for. It may not interest most of us, but the people who are JW are not hurting anyone with their religion. stymie said: concordance said: we are all "witnesses" to what we believe in anyway. JWs don't believe in hell? Well, I studied with them for a period of six months. One of the ladies was a co-worker. She told everyone at work she had 'converted' me when she hadn't, told me that JWs were the chosen religion and every other religion was wrong and that non-believers wer going to hell. And yes, she did say "hell". I tried studying with them because I was in search of the truth. I was turned off by the stance of other religions being wrong and decided to read and discover the truth for myself. As far as them not believing in an afterlife, it is my understanding that is all that they live for, to be resurrected...at least that was how it was broken down to me...Who knows? Maybe I was studying with the wrong folks.

They do believe in resurrection after armageddon, to eternal life in paradise on Earth. They definately do not believe in hell, only eternal damnation ie. Once you are dead, you are dead, gone kaput, no more etc. RIP

Stymie,
They don't believe in Hell, because it was quoted to me that God would never let someone burn in eternity. But they say they will go down in everlasting destruction. So, what does this mean? and how does it compare to Hell? I think it's a shame that Prince, who I once thought was such a brilliant man would join such a group of people. Has he ever asked himself, Why would God only offer salvation to JW's? They shun Everyone else. They go around talking about Armagedon and Everyone but them going down in everlasting destruction, like they can't wait for this to happen! My question is: When did God come down to earth and make all this official in the late 1800s? I don't remember reading this in history. God died on the cross over 2000 years ago. He said to the two men with him, Today I will see you in Paradise. We are made up of energy, something that cannot be destroyed.

Lovebird,
Let me first say that I'm not a JW, but know many people who are. I have studied some of their writings. You asked how dose hell compare to the veiw of everlasting destruction. Hell, sheohl, or haides is not an individual burial place or a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked are punished after death, It is the common grave of dead mankind. You are right God will not punish the wicked or the unbelieving for eternity. But they will not be able to be apart of the kind of world that God has planned for this earth. God's plan has not changed, Adam and Eve tried to change things, by not trusting in God's word. Yes! JW think that they are doing as God want, as most religion do. You are also right that most are looking forward to Armagedon. For those who make it past that trial will then be living in God's Kingdom. As bad as thing are getting in the world today I would think more people would be hoping to an end to this "wicked system of things". As for God dying on the cross I am with JW on the point that God and Jesus are not one. The trinity has never work for me. The word nor a statement of the thinitarian dogma is found in the Bible. Jesus said in prayer: "Father..this means eternal life, that they know of thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. God can not be the one and only if there are two others who are gods to the same degree as he is. Well this is more than I plan to write, but as I said before there seem to be alot of misunderstanding when it comes to JW.
