Hello from a Newb

Hi.
I am an old fogey (49) who became a fan of Prince during a 3 minute spell back in 1984 when I heard Take Me With U on the radio for the first time.
Suddenly I was hearing his songs everywhere, but it was this track that switched my light on.
I collected avidly for about 15 to 16 years, but fell out of love as quickly as I fell in. NPS had disappointed me, and Rave...seemed sub standard. I kept buying his cds, but for nearly 10 years I stopped listening to him.
My cds just gathered dust.

Then a few weeks ago, I dug TRC out and listened to it for the first time. Then Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, and then back in time.
Now, I can remember why I loved his music, and it wasn't me getting all duey eyed about his old stuff, it was discovering and loving his recent stuff.

And Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic? Fantastic. Can't remember why I didn't like it.

Well, it's nice to be on board and I'm looking forward to chatting with everyone.
Trouble is, my wife and 3 teenage kids have other musical interests. Converting them to Prince is a lost cause. I'm stranded! smile

The easy way to convert them to the darkside is to find out which artist they like and then find the link to prince that way.....always works.. lol

Aah, it's good to be among friends. Thanks for the welcome.

Wetdream mentioning MJ reminds me of the 80s when everyone was crazy about him, and I felt like I was all alone trying to convince MJ fans that Prince was about 100 x better. They just wouldn't be told. They were quite content to wait 5 or 6 years for 40 minutes of music!

As for Lotusflow3r, I'm finally excited at the prospect of a new Prince record, for the first time in years.

Great intro of yourself and how you got into Prince.

Hope you enjoy being on the forum...it's great to share stories, thoughts about prince, songs and whatever, even though it can get a little crazy.

Enjoy

Welcome lemoncrush59! You picked quite a time to join us but hopefully you'll enjoy yourself. It's great that you've come back to the Purple World too! Wonderful in every way! I must warn you, it's going to get rough in here from time to time but ultimately it's about being a Prince fan and the Music itself that matters the most. biggrin

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

welcome friend. TRC did it for me too. got me re-hooked on the music of the most creative artist working. as for your wife and kids, let me "accidentally" hear "unexpected" Prince songs like Sometimes it Snows in April, Dolphin, etc. i think their interest will be peaked but slowly

welcome to the org lemon!

just play your funky purple music loudly at every opportunity there has to be some of it they will relate to, its all so varied!

we have a family theme for our car runs etc we play crazy LOUD or 1999 with the windows done and my teens do air guitar - to share the purple love with the world lol

one of my friends had pre-conceived ideas of prince from back in the 80s without ever really listening to his music, i took him to the 02 concerts and he LOVES planet Earth, even now listens to some wendy and lisa!!

so many other artists have referred to prince at some time in their music and interviews i think your teens will prob give him a go, if you play it to them.

Live is best though, a whole new ball game! get to a show any show and take them - they will be converted!

play them the golden oldy videos too. my kids also love the time.

the meet up board is great on here and the orgers do post the latest gigs of associated artists too, so you can hook up with people plus there are many meet ups organised in many cities.

I met several people via the org at the 02 concerts and have 'virtual' friends too who have become good friends.

I also had a short period of time when i forgot prince and my cds sat unused. mainly during my kids earlier years. I stumbled on the NPGMC site and i was reborn all purple anew!!

It was fun revisitng all the old tracks and rediscovouring the music, theres so much of it!

visit any thread you see that mentions tack comparisons or what are you feelin today type threads, as often tracks you forgot you knew will get mentioned!

i love the excitment generated here by the orgers, a fun distraction from the everyday humdrum, i love feeling like a teen again excitedly trying to tape a tv show or greedily reading an interview or review of a concert.

Yaay another purple hippie!
