This was shot during a short period when Prince was trying out Hohner's new at the time wireless prototype guitar technology - or Wi-Git. If you look really close, you can see the antenna in his pants.

Sometimes I wonder if the memory I have of Prince performing back in the day was just a delusion manufactured in my own head. Then, I see pictures like this; and realize... "Nope, that shit was for real" . No wonder mainstream America was scared of his ass! And they couldn't ignore him or shut him down because he was too awesome. Who among us at the time realized there was this much method to his madness? What a long and winding road this has been. No doubt the dawn will be coming soon.

Back in the day...He was somethin' else.

'Tis bizarre. Promo shot sounds the most likely. An alternate option could be that he is rehearsing or jamming in his head. Perhaps he is 'feeling out' the instrument before he jacks it up.
