Does my music sound too Prince influenced?

I've been writing and producing my own tracks for years now and most people that hear them notice a strong Prince influence. I admit that as a teen I would ware everything out that he released between 1983 - 1989. Now I do borrow some percussion sounds from that Prince era for certain tracks but overall I don't hear as much of an influence as others have. As fellow Prince listeners - do ya'll hear it in my music? Is it too much? What do you think of my tracks? I will admit that my track "Bitch Ain't Bad" is the type of thing I wish Prince would release now but I'm sure his religious views now may prohibit that. I look forward to hearing what you may think of my work - please go to www.myspace.com/piscesmusicproductions to listen.

Thx,

So it doesn't take long for ignorance to rear it's ugly head does it? If you have nothing constructive to say why even post this reply? You enjoy making people feel bad? I'll put it in more simple terms for your grade school mentality - Does the music I produce sound too Prince influenced? I need another set of ears besides mine to judge my tracks. "Joyinrepatition" you need not reply again unless you've grown out of yo diapers.

"Belly" sounds like Prince vocally. I really like the lyrics, and the message conveyed about "lay on your belly and I'll protect you".

The others are good songs, and I don't hear any overt Prince in them.

The only thing I would say an influence would be the Drum Machine (but you have stated that). Besides that, nothing much at all. Your stuff is pretty good!

I think your music is real dope! The only thing that I hate is that you use the voice box. It's been way over used by that fool T-Pain. I think if you used your normal voice on your tracks they would pop even better. I dig it. Keep up the good work. I'd like to hear more of what you have.

Doesn't sound remotely like Prine to me(dunno if thats good or bad). Id second the suggestion about losing the voice box thing, sounds like water gargling. Not my cup of tea, but keep at it.

Round 2 -

Asking if my music sounds influenced by Prince and asking if it compares to Prince's music would be two different questions, and the latter one I never asked. It's like asking if your witless comments are influenced by being ignored, belittled, and denied breast milk as a child, or how your shallow thinking compares to Rush Limbaugh's thoughts on Obama. And that says what?
Why feel the need to ruin this forum with spitefulness?

Thanks for listening. Yeah I fought using the autotune for a while but trust me, my vocals without it are very rough. And without a real singer available I have to go with the one-man-band thing. It helps more than it hurts, trust me on that. I appreciate your input and thanks for taking the time.

Jerk, he was asking if it sounded prince influenced. Don't go slacking him off. Besides they are very good songs imo

Ok now you have me confused. Well you made this thread rather interesting for a minute I guess. If anyone wants to comment on my original question please do so. To me it's all about the music and not attitudes.

1st - I like it

2nd - ignore negativity - it will always be there! so as an artist you have to separate yourself from it so you can forge on

Heck yes you sound like Prince! Very much like early P on Belly! This song even has elements of 3121 "Incense and Candles" and is definitely the best track

You gotta chill on the auto-tune! You got a better voice than you think.

I'd love to remix belly to show you what I'm talking about - a little auto tune is good here and there but not the whole track. What are you T-Pain?? What software did you use to mix it?

The Linn on Chocolate Swirl is a nice touch - needs to be turned up a bit

Finally, when you actually sing you sound a bit like Danielle Bedinfield - Natalie's brother

Keep rollin'
peace

Hey thanks for sharing, oh yeah i would say it has a princely vibe. kinda mellow.

Good job, dont take critism too personally, art is based on opinions and we all have diffrent taste buds.

on a side note, even Prince has trouble keeping the Prince sound fresh. Dont worry too much about sounding like Prince, just sound like yourself.

Thanks for the critique. I find contructive opinions very valuable. "What software did you use to mix it?" I use protools to record, edit, and mix. The auto-tune is the AVP-1 Antares rack processor. I have to sing through it live as opposed to adding it later to a dry vocal track. My CPU has an issue with reconizing the Antares software plug in version. I'll have to check out Natalie's brother - didn't know he sang too. Thanks again!

You clearly can't read. He was asking if you could hear a Prince influence in his music. I'm pretty sure he didn't say "....Hey I've got some tracks up. How do they stack up against Princes stuff? Cheers."

To put yourself out there takes a lot of courage. Particularly when there are joyless wankers like you ready to shoot people down because they don't quite compete with one of the greatest pop artists of all time.

What were you expecting 'Sign O the Times'?

I think it's time for your daily visit to the local orphanage to poke some kids in the eye.

"I think it's time for your daily visit to the local orphanage to poke some kids in the eye". - that's a great line, wish I had thought of it.
