Ive only been a fan for like 9 months, and he hasnt made me cry.
But I was REALLY CLOSE after hearing 'Sometimes It Snows In April'

When he came back to Philly for the Musicology concert he got such a standing ovation that he couldn't even start his song, it must have lasted for almost 10 minutes with whistles and cheers he just stood there and bowed and kept saying thank you. He got choked up and I saw tears in his eyes and I definetly had them in mine. Beautiful memory!

Never. He's not wired for that. For me, Prince very, very rarely gives away what makes him tick. It's just not in his nature to confess, unless it conveys him as either the bewildered victim or concrete cocked dreamlover who knows all a woman's desires, whims and fancies. Both perspectives are bullshit - Prince seems to find it either impossible or extremely difficult articulate the grey area in between. It gives his songs/music (which, to me, are still sonically imaginative and wonderfully clever) flat one-dimentional cartoonish aftertaste - as if the creation of his art is solely intended to embellish his own myth. Some weird form of artistic masturbation and comfort blanket for his obviously fragile ego. Very little of it doesn't feel contrived or calculated - it's a shame most untrained ears can hear in Prince's recent work is a glossy garish mess with added windchime sound-effects.
I guess I'm just saying I can't empathise with Prince. He's too obsessed with the characature elements of his personality - and his sense of humour is hardly inclusive. His life is just too different from mine. He just can't make me an emotional confidant. I guess I'm just waiting on his Rick Rubin album.

As I gingerly unwrapped the packaging from his latest work, The Rainbow Children, marveling at the package itself and the artwork I couldn't stop smiling!!

The first time I heard "Purple Rain". I had bought it on cassette tape the day it was released, and was listening to it on my Ghetto Blaster on the rooftop of my building (while enjoying a cold beer, a doobie, and some sunshine). I don't know why because I didn't really get the lyrics on the first listen, and I had no concept of what the movie was going to be about yet, but something about that music just grabbed my heart - the rest is history.
