I don't hate the album, but it's clearly not one of his best. There a few good songs but nothing really spectacular.

When I first heard it was coming out I was very excited. Finally the song "Rave" was gonna b released after being teased with it's existence ever since Small Club and Batdance...
Then I heard the cd 4 the first time... disappointed.. I really wanted this cd 2 be a super cd but it just couldn't live up 2 my expectations.. The production sucked and the songs didn't work 2 well 2gether..
My overall impression was a 5 out of 10. the album was saved from even lower score by the presence of : Sun, Moon & Stars, I love u but I don't trust u anymore...
Maybe P should've stuck 2 the original configuration??

There are some great tunes on that album. So Far So Pleased, Baby Knows, Love U Don't Trust U Anymore, Sun Moon and Stars, and Man O War are all top notch for me. The others aren't bad at all, but not close to as good as the ones I named. It's a decent album, and I get the urge to listen to it every couple of months. Doesn't compare to his best work...

Although I haven't listened to it in quite a while. I remember liking it.

I think everyone's expectation of Prince was some kinda of really deep, avantguard, ground breaking, millinium album that had a similar inspiration to a project like the original Crystal Ball album that later turned into Sign of the Times.

Everyone, I think expected Prince to put many in awe with an album that would be like a soundtrack for the millinium.

Espessially with all the spiritual "changes" that he was going through, I think a lot of people thought he'd have more to say.

I think that's what made albums like Sign of the Times so cool is that a lot of songs were about world events, and world problems, and not so personal. Example: songs about the recording industry, break-ups, and love lost.

This album, was a little more personal when I think the world wanted an album written for them.

That's one opinion.

Sorry but for the very first time I listened to it I nearly threw it through the window.

It will remain for me one of the shittiest Prince album ever. I really think the production is awful. The tracks don't fit together. No proper coherence at all. fart

It is pretty shit. The production makes Emancipation look like genius, and songs like 'Silly Game', 'Man O War' and the cover of 'Everyday is a Winding Road' sound like a man desperately running out of ideas.

Thank God he got back to making some real music.

There are some exellent songs on rave. Sun, Moon, and Stars should have been #1 on the adult contemporary charts IMO.

Certainly not his best, but it has some moments. It's a happy little pop album in my eyes. The sad thing is, I really think he could have had top 40 singles out of So Far, So Pleased and Hot Wit You and what does he release? The Greatest Romance! Such a stupid song with no potential for picking up new fans.
(Not that I think popularity is important or an affirmation of talent, simply that it just proves once again that he has no business sense, nor promotion/marketing abilities.)

And I agree, the Winding Road cover was just plain embarrassing.

There's nothing tyranically wrong with Rave for what its supposed to be. A pop album. Slap people on the back of the neck or give them a Benny Hill on their forhead if they talk mess about it.

i think there are a lotta great songs on rave...i think the only problem is he shoulda used real drums, less programming...a cleaner, more organic production like 'the rainbow children' could've
turned some good songs to classics...'manowar' for example...

I dont play Rave that much, but I love the Title track (which has been dissed so much) I know that it doesnt sound like the original one from 88 but its so funky to me, I really dig it.

Wow I really am in a minority. Its weird coz a friend of mine got into Prince a little through this album and even came to the ONA tour with me. Some of u are saying "Rave In2..." is better. I don't have this yet, would you all recommend it?
