I understand what you're saying and I usually agree. However, I don't feel like I'm in the same boat at all in this instance (with "Lotusflow3r"). I've already heard "Crimson and Clover," "4Ever," "Colonized Mind," "Wall of Berlin" and the NPGMC snippet of "Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful" and I love all of them. On top of that, music critics Edna Gundersen (USA Today) and Ann Powers (LA Times) both singled out "Dreamer" as one of the very best tracks on LF. That's 6 keepers out of 10. I just wait until I hear it myself, I hate hearing other's reviews.
When the movie Titanic came out everyone was saying how good this movie was and great,
when I saw it for myself, I didn't think it was as great as they said, because I was expecting something more.
But when I went to see it again without expectations, I thought it wasn't as bad as I first thought.
Don't know if that makes sense.

Just a play on words.

As Jackblack said. I thought that Optmimus sounded like Optimist meaning to expect the best of everything so I joked that you should swap Optimus for Pessimus which of course sounds like Pessimist. The joke has failed miserably however due to the need to explain it. I am therefore compelled to apologise for my linguistic horseplay and apparent total lack of mirth.

So tell me. Is Lotusflow3r any good? And when will the website open?

I think this is nothing short of bizarre to have to tell yourself that the album is gonna be shit in order for you to like it. Why even spend the money on it if that's how you're going to go into hearing it? I myself have no expectations either way but I have hope that I will enjoy the CD. I do that with all the new music I buy with all artists. I hope for the best but if it stinks then it stinks but I think that having what seems to be a defeated attitude about the CD is counterproductive and a setup for disappointment that YOU would have created for yourself.

I don't think it will be shit.. I have heard a few tracks i already enjoy. Given that we have heard a decent amount of the music, I'd say you could base it on what you've already heard.. in terms of hopes.

I am looking forward to other albums this year... This one i'll pick up for sure, but I expect to get burnt out on it rather quickly. His recent studio output only has a quick fix energy, and soon after a few spins, I probably won't pick it up for a good while. Expecting that

I have no expectations. I'm just going to maintain an empty mind and listen to it. I'll judge it based on the natural emotional response after a few spins.

Exactly I don't understand the object of starting a thread like this... how bizarre. I don't understand the negative energy on this site towards Prince and his music. Why can't people get a life? Prince isn't forcing anyone to buy his music.
Prince is a great musician, he works hard at his craft and people should view his work without prejudices or trying to influence other orgers and give him the chance to prove his work,
Anyway from the preview he gave us I like the songs and I know I will enjoy the CDs.

Aside from the occasional anomaly like Purple Rain, Prince's albums always required more than one spin for me.

I thought Dirty Mind was too short. I thought Sign 'O' the Times was underwhelming. I thought Parade was too bizarre. I thought Lovesexy was too pristine.

Now I love all those albums.

Yeah since hearing 5 songs already my expectations are low. I learned to NEVER expect with Prince.

WHen I was little and my mom gave me allowances every 2 weeks, I'd run to the record store to buy a new Prince tape with NO expectation on how it was supposed to sound. I didnt have the internet and didnt know anyone that liked Prince as a 11 year old kid.

I'm going to be that kid again for this album.

Some people are not just looking for a good current album, they are looking to buy back their youth. If you're looking for that, well be prepared to be disappointed.

Take The Rainbow Children for example, even if you took away some of the lyrical content, the haters still wouldn't have been satisfied.

I remember a conversation I had with one of my closest friends about a couple of years ago and we both wondered did Prince fans have the same kind of expectations when Controversy or 1999 or Purple Rain came out? I can't imagine it being as crazy and damn near scary as it was in 1982, though I could be wrong.

prince's music is like this 4 me ..it's either 1st time u play it, it hits u..and then sometimes it takes repeated listenings and then it hits u ..or u'll just never get in2 the song/album

i think ur approach of a open mind is the best way cause not everything will hit everyone the same way. if coming in with the notions of "this better b high quality material", "it better sound like something like sign o the times, pr or any album of the 80's" is TOTALLY setting urself up 4 disappointment..

just chill out, have a glass of wine and dive in ..
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
