You assume they're upset by Prince. Me, personally, if I'm a "naysayer", I can honestly say it's never upset me on an emotional level to be disappointed by Prince's output. I just move on to better music.

Exactly.

And how many names are folks gonna come up to call a person who doesn't fall in line with WHATEVER the man says or does?

co-sign. I am curious to know who really takes a discussion about prince music really seriously anyway.. especially with emotions. it's music. Nothing more

No you are someone with discerning taste for a musician that was giving you five star meals and then decided to throw you some excellently cooked squab with happy meal accoutremands (sp).

biggrin

On occassion I like happy meals, but they end up giving me the shits.

Too much info? Oh right. falloff

Ever think that hes saving stuff 4 the web site( Such as extra tracks ,videos per se.. Remember hes put out stuff for the masses and then sold stuff on his own not including the retailer in it. Just a thought.

No, i just look forward to seeing him improve on his studio work when he performs. I live in hope for improvement but his albums these days are pretty lacklustre. He's great live, no dispute.

I'm not joining his site. Especially if i have to pay a large fee for membership in order just to get extra mediocre tracks, perfume and other junk. I had enough with the NPGMC. fuck that noise.

i'm wise to this guy.

What is a naysayer? (besides anyone compelled to respond to this thread. tease )

If I remember correctly, Prince has said that his fans are musically sophisticated. Wouldn't it stand to reason that the musically sophisticated recognize subpar music when we hear it? Or maybe our opinions only count when they're favorable.

The same could be said, and probably has been said, about posting on Internet discussion boards as a whole.

My point is that folks who often are labeled "naysayers" and similar names really seem to be big fans who see a slide in Prince's studio output. Still agree that he's one of the best performers of all time but would like more "Empty Room"-level artistry and less "Future Baby Mama"-level dreck.

I don't think that we all have to like everything that Prince puts out. I don't. I think the "naysayers" are those that cannot voice their opinion in an intelligent, respectful way. There is a big difference between an intelligent, informed critique and a rude, disrespectful, immature rant.

Actually, the term "naysayers" began in Prince world during the whole
Crystal Ball fiasco. Prince's website [whichever one it was at the time] in response to complaints said something along the lines of: "When the Ball drops, naysayers will be eating their words on toast."

Does that sound about right? Am I remembering this correctly?

And so, some people throw the term around as a matter or pride, others throw it around to separate the sheep from the goats.

Then there are people who never received their Crystal Ball orders... I wonder how they'd be categorized. lol

Hmmmm... maybe they're just busy with their toast.

You know, it's kind of crazy. On this site, I would probably be categorized as a naysayer, but in the real world I am considered to be one of the most obsessed Prince fans out there...[just ask my friends]
