Looks like it's P vs MJ allover again [87-88], how can P top the MJ hype & ensure that artistry wins?

Game on!, it's c21 years since but here we are again ladies and gentlemen facing the battle of Art vs Product. So P has 3 CD's out at a credit crunch bustin' $12.00, great website pending and hopefully a tour but so far hardly any publicity.
MJ , as always has the focus on product, slick global publicity, shifting units ,being the biggest etc. Round 1 easily goes to MJ,the sheer speed [i'm talking 5 days] of the O2 announcement to 1m people globally registering and inevitably Prine's 21 nights will be blown away. Hopefully the CD's from P will give him the artistic vote [although the incredibly lightweight MPLS trax heard so far fill me with dread!].Back then P had the SOTT and Lovesexy projects to kick MJ's ass.
Is the game over before its even started?. Seriously how is our man to get his message heard above the hype surrounding MJ, Has P got it in him to keep hold of the crown and just where the f*$k is his PR team hiding their ass?.

SEXYMF2002

There is no war...

MJ is copying Prince's idea of the O2 marketing with multiple shows and blah blah blah.

That and MJ will likely cancel nearly all shows due to illness or some other lame excuse...

I love MJ and he has cemented his place in music history...BUT ...So has Prince...

The big diff is P don't care nor should he care about toping MJ. Hes not trying to remake "Purple Rain" with every album...Michael is..he thinks he can regain the Thriller days...its impossible..

The sad truth is MJ is flat broke and his only source of income are the music catalogs he owns and thats barely keeping him going.... sad

Prince is not going to sink to that level. He is going to do what he does best....give a dam good concert series. Besides, I have my doubts about MJ even being able to complete the entire concert schedule. The proof is in the product and final packaging. My money is on the Purple Wonder cool

MJ has always been the better at marketing...WB did well for Prince in the 80's.... since leaving WB Prince has been notoriously bad at fulfilling his promises...

as much as I hate to say it MJ will be remembered for a 'comeback' this year....

how Prince does is really up to him now...

maybe with MJ having an edge on him so far this year - Prince will lift his game...lets hope so....

MJ will whip Prince's ass with his usual well executed hype.... but if we are talking musically - with Lotus Flower Prince should do well...then again, Chocolate Box might ruin all that...too soon to tell

round 1 goes to MJ.....round 2 will begin at the end of this month....

It's not about one topping the other, however if theyre was a top and a bottom...Prince would TOP...lol.

Anyway, Prince will do well with all the new projects, as will Michael.
Everybody's got make a dollar. wink

If I had to choose who will do better, it would be Prince.
Poor Micael has to resort to selling his glitter glove and the gate to neverland. How sad.

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

art never wins commercialy no matter how good it is.

clearly prince is going to deliver the goods like lotusflow3r the album that will be remembered in the same vein as the rainbow children and he has the website which will OWN all other entertainers sites im sure. also, prince is probably going to tour a bit and do other things that will be unique. prince has got the gun...its just he has a silencer on it....at the moment.

and as some others have said...i doubt prince cares, he's to cool for this!

No one here has heard Michael's new music yet to count it out already.

I'm looking forward to both in terms of artistry.

Quite.

Michael Jackson occupies another universe in the hearts and minds of the people of the world. He might have gone to court and been found not guilty many times over, but he never wore heels and assless pants!

While Prince is content in his insular little religious world, he's seen as more freaky than surgery-plagued, accused Michael, and Michael has always been more popular, he was a cute little kid, then Off The Wall and Thriller. BAM! biggest act ever. To the general public and non-fans, Prince is Purple Rain, LRC and WDC and maybe a couple of dozen more top 40 hits, He's certainly got the respect he deserves in these last few years as a live act. why this can't be dealt with, i don't understand.

As fans, leave Michael alone and be content in Prince's artistry and his longevity, i know i am.

I've said it before and I'll be sure to say it time and time again - but I just don't get this whole P v MJ thing. As a fan of both I've never understood how one has to be mutually exclusive. They both produce outstanding work that is miles above anyone else of their contemporaries.

The only competition is that manufactured by the press and by zealous fans who are worried that someone might top the artist they hold so dear.

Both are artists, both are individuals and both have influenced each other.

I hope this year fans of each artist get to enjoy their artist's music, and that those of us who are fans of both artists get to enjoy it all without having to endure these rather pointless discussions.

Now, is that an attempt to flame me?! or are you acknowledging you're a dipshit? lol

Anyway, "dipshit"?! falloff
No it isn't valid, if you read the British press and feel that makes this thread legitimate you are a fool.

I don't understand what you are saying in you first sentence due to you poor typing skills, i suspect you might be stupid, uneducated or something. I'm just being respectful of both artists and frowning on your silly thread.

Is all! shrug

MJ's announcement of a series of shows trumps Prince's announcement of a new cd?
Neither one has delivered anything yet so how do you compare?
MJ has the most to lose.
If he lipsyncs.
If he cancels too many shows.
If he doesn't perform well.
This could all blow up in his face.
He is taking a big gambit.
On an international stage.
Prince is releasing some new music.
He does that just about every year.
If it flops it flops - won't be the first time a Prince cd hasn't sold well.
If its a hit & then he looks good.
Can't compare the two - MJ's trying for a comeback while Prince is just keepig on keeping on.
