The end of the wrecka stow: Prince mentioned

The Top 10 Things We'll Miss About Record Stores
Tuesday, March 03, 2009

This week has brought with it three more harbingers of record store doom.

First, Prince announced yesterday he’s releasing his new trilogy of albums LOtUSFLOW3R, MPLSoUND and Elixer exclusively at Target stores.

Second, U2 is using a week-long stint on "The Late Show With David Letterman" to promote their new CD, "No Line On The Horizon," because there's no real other way to get the album out there in people's faces for an extended period of time.

And third, Virgin is closing all of its remaining New York record stores by this spring, leaving the country's largest city with a smattering of mom-and-pop indie shops, and little else.

So stick a fork in the record store (an admitted misnomer, but never did call them CD stores). It is done.

I saw this coming.

I prefer Mom and Pop stores anyway. The only thing is they can't afford to have decent sales on music.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

nod

They can do other promos, though. The store I go to here in Madison has a "buy 12, get 1 free" program for both CDs and vinyl. I have a free CD coming as we speak! cool

They also do a program where I can buy a CD online (through their website), then pick it up in their store. It saves me the shipping - and they call me when it's in.

I don't wanna give up on record stores coming to an end. There are still people out there that appreciate the idea of exchange and trade. cool
