My personal experiences are irrelevant to my reading/interpretation of the lyrics; and as such I analyzed Prince's appropriation of the term "future baby mama" based on its commonly accepted use and definition in American English vernacular. (See urbandictionary.com for examples.) Secondly, I believe you misunderstood point number four. I was using the line from Days of Wild as an example of Prince speaking out against using derogatory words with which to refer to women. In my professional (n.b. not personal) opinion, this is a shift from the past. Specifically, Billy Jack Bitch is the only officially released song I can think of off the top of my head where he seemingly condones referring to a female as a bitch. I'm presuming you're a male, so I wouldn't expect you to be able to fully empathsize with the sexual objectification women are subjected to on nearly a daily basis (whether in their personal lives or from American society/media); so your dismissiveness of an alternative point of view is not entirely surprising (unfortunately). Unless you spoke with Prince personally regarding his exact meaning of the lyrics for Future Baby Mama (which I'm going to guess is not the case), then my interpretation is just as valid as yours, regardless of whether you believe it or not. I could just as easily infer things about your personal relationships based on your response to mine, but I'll refrain and give you the benefit of the doubt.  as a male i totally get what ur saying and i agree with u 1000% about how this song is really a (pardon the pun) bitch slap 2 all women. it's like how chris rock said that women need 2 really listen 2 lyrics sometimes when someone is saying in a song "smack her with a dick" and then proclaim "HE AIN'T TALKING ABOUT ME!". Perhaps so, however ladies, it's still a diss 2 ur gender. i do have other problems with this song besides the title of the song: "i heard it say that all my lovers look alike...they were cool ..they had me fooled 4 minute then i saw the truth.." okay his previous wife was having his child and un4tunately the baby passed away. is that her fault? and what i take from this lyric alone, in regards 2 his past relationships, he's not acknowledging his own hand in the destruction of his marriages. it goes 2 the same old rhetoric in his songs where it's always the woman's fault and not his. yeah right! a step in being a adult is acknowleding when u fuck up and take responsibilty 4 that and prince doesn't take that step. the other problem i have with this song, is the music itself, the linn drum sounds HELLA LAME! the spoken bridge is horrendous and just because this song won a grammy says NOTHING. remember the grammy's awarded JETHRO TULL as a best heavy metal act!!!  man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 | |
