Jeff Beck's "Guitar Shop" Album - Prince influence?

Listened to "Guitar Shop" for the first time in a long time today. Jeff Beck would have to be the best guitarist ever (imo). But a lot of the tracks remind me alot of Prince, so I'm wondering if Jeff Beck was influenced by Prince, or was it the other way around?

Jeff's album came out in '89.

I'm not just talking about the guitar work being similar to Prince, the whole Guitar Shop album smells of Prince, right down to beats and horns and keyboards.

and (Didnt Jeff Beck play drums on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition"?)

Again an orger who knows shit about guitar and who doesn't play the instrument properly in the first place.
Jeff Beck would slap you for being so dumb and ignorant.

They are two great guitar players btw.

That is SO untrue. Beck has mentioned his appreciation of Prince's playing. They dig each other.

I don't know when or where but i am 100 percent certain that jeff beck has been quoted as saying he loved Prince and his guitar playing. Didn't he say that WDC was his fave song? someone more informed here will tell you more

I only know of him from his guitar solo on Rod Stewart's "Infatuation".

It was funky.

I remember reading in "G.F.T.P.M" (86 or 87) that Jeff really dug P. He said he would put on his LP's at home and jam with them. I also recall P getting up onstage with Jeff and Carlos and jamming on a tune (in 95).

There's a funk rocker on "Blow By Blow" where JB is jamming with the octave divider on his guitar. I wouldn't be surprised if P stole a little bit of that for his own style.

Man "Blow by Blow" is great too. Jeff is awesome. I didn't know they dug each other, cool.

I don't think an album from `89 would have a huge influence on Prince.

Prince said his guitar hero is Carlos Santana.

No. Stevie played the drums of Superstition. Interestingly though, Stevie first offered Superstition to Beck but pulled it back, akin to Prince and "Kiss."

Beck does play guitar on Stevie's Talking Book album. He and P are amazing guitarists.

I wasn't very familiar with Jeff Beck's guitar playing when I had the pleasure of sitting next to him at a bar for awhile. We just told jokes. He was a nice guy. cool

Correct me if I'm in error. Didn't the Jeff Beck actually (Beck,Bogart & Appice)record "Superstition" first? Steve Wonder then recorded his version and released it first.

Jeff Beck stated in a Guitar Shop era interview (GFPM IIRC) that one of the tunes (He states which song it was but I'd have to dig up the mag)had some runs in it influenced by Prince's playing. I've always suspected that the solo in "Temptation" from AWIAD was a nod to "Truth" era Beck. Check out the tune "Rock My Plimsoul" & hear for yourself.
