We've been pretty well served since the break from WB I was just having a quick tot up in my head how many albums Prince has released under one guise or another since 1993 when he first showed disatisfaction with his WB contract. You know I think he has actually released more music in a similar time period (approx 15 years with WB and 15 years without). Sometimes we seem to be under the impression that all the "freedom" he fought for didn't then yield as much music but it just doesn't ring true.
The releases have sometimes been a bit "messy" in terms of method, promotion, and planning (and some have been obligation to finally get him out of his WB contract) but the list of what Prince really wanted to release independently or with one-off deals is pretty long. 1800-New-Funk Exodus Emancipation Crystal Ball/The Truth Newpower Soul (and GCS2000/Come 2 My House) Rave In2/Rave Un2 NPGMC Tracks (that pretty much became The Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse) The Rainbow Children One Nite Alone (piano and voice) One Nite Alone Live boxset Xpectation/C-Note N.E.W.S. Musicology 3121 Planet Earth and now we have Lotus Flower/MPLSound/Elixir That's one hell of a lot of music from basically 1994/5 to 2008/9 [Edited 3/4/09 5:01am] Just somewhere in the middle,

Yeah, perhaps this topic has been done to death in the past (insert floggin a dead horse emoticon here). What the hey! We are still getting threads started about his word play from 1999/2000 and why Days Of Wild was left off TGE...
I really was thinking about the odd comment that you sometimes get, about Prince not releasing more music since the break with Warner Bros Records. Just somewhere in the middle,

not sure about the quality of all those releases though Makes me wonder if Warners giving him that creative boundary (as mentioned in Chris Rock interview) was a good thing in restraining his indulgences. Still, who knows, the well could have dried up anyways. | |
