The State of British Music Outlets. So we have Target (who?) for the US. Okay that's handy but where can the rest of the world get their copies from? This in turn lead me to realise that as Zavvi has just collapsed this leaves us with very few retail outlets in this country.
So should we assume that Prince will turn to say the supermarkets as they probably sell the greater amount of new releases now. Or will he look at Play.com which is based in Jersey (near France) or even (got to laugh) CDWOW which is based in Asia yet still manages to sell cds to Britain with free postage? Woolworths? Oh yeah that just collapsed too. WHSMith? Let's not kid ourselves, it's a posh stationers. I reckon he'll turn to the only outlet that still has a large enough number of open stores in every bloody part of the country.... B&Q! Oh the state of the world! And finally, released as a pack with artwork and lyrics available online? Am I to assume that it'll come like Crystal Ball then? Great, and the difference between a cellophane wrapped trio of blank cds and and burning my own is what exactly?

In the UK, there is HMV, WHSmiths, Borders Bookstores as well as all the supermarket chains!!
its a pity that Prince didnt sign with Wal Mart instead of Target, cos Wal Mart own ASDA, so that UK orgers could have lived on the hope that the 3 CDs would have been available there!!!! Failing that, theres always The Mail On Sunday!!!!!

C'mon, Don't you all think that there will be pre-orders on LotusFlow3r.com? Airmail is pretty quick. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Who buys music from record stores now anyway?
It's not like you won't be able to order the CD's from the website, or Amazon, or eBay. |

It's not like you won't be able to order the CD's from the website, or Amazon, or eBay. A lot of people still like to walk into a shop on the high street for their purchases. Not me though, I have to agree, it's easier, cheaper and there is FAR more choice on any of the big online retailers. HMV is the only high street big chain store left really for music, and their stock is laughable, it's no wonder people are buying stuff from supermarkets instead, their stock isn't much different.

It's not like you won't be able to order the CD's from the website, or Amazon, or eBay. People who enjoy getting up in the morning to be the first ones to get hold of the album of their favourite artist; who like putting the CD on the cashpoint table, paying for it. Then walking away with a CD in their hands, knowing it belongs to them now. I miss those days

Three new Prince albums to be released as a triple setLOtUSFLOW3R, MPLSoUND and Elixer will be released exclusively through US retailer Target, although details of UK release are still awaited.. Prince ... ready to deliver new three albums in one. Photograph: Getty Fans of Prince won't have to decide whether they want his new rock album, electro album, or the one where he doesn't sing, the artist has announced. All three of Prince's new albums will be sold in a single triple-disc set – and probably for less than a tenner. LOtUSFLOW3R, MPLSoUND and Elixer are part of a new deal between Prince and US retailer Target, who will be the exclusive distributor, selling thethree albums together for just $11.98 (£8.49). The set goes on sale on 28 March. The last time Prince made a release deal with a third party, offering his 2007 album Planet Earth free with copies with The Mail On Sunday, he was dropped by his UK label. While LOtUSFLOW3R and MPLSoUND are conventional Prince albums, Elixer is in fact the debut of his new "protégé", Bria Valente. Prince helped produce the album, adding guitar and other parts. Prince's decision to team with Target was likely motivated by numbers – Target is one of the United States' largest mass-market retailers and has released exclusive CDs by Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. But there may have been more modest motivations as well. The company is based in Prince's home town of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The last two years have seen more and more major acts giving large American chains exclusive rights to their albums. Paul McCartney sold a 2007 album through Starbucks and everyone from AC/DC to Bruce Springsteen has struck deals with Walmart. The Boss recently expressed regret for his Walmart decision, calling it a "mistake". "We didn't vet it the way we usually do," he said. "Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one." Prince has yet to announce the method of the albums' UK release. Funny the press have not even asked this question ? I remember when high street stores had great singles sections with imports and older stuff. I bought the 'Let's Pretend We're Married' 12" from the old Virgin Megastore here in about 1994. Can you imagine going into a HMV today and picking up a single that was 12 years old?!
