Prince's afterparty fails to draw A-List

thisislondon.co.uk/lite

Prince had so much trouble attracting anyone to his Oscars afterparty at the Avalon Club in Hollywood that he threw the doors open to the public $100 a head first come first served. Last year his bash drew in the likes of Stevie Wonder,Sean "Diddy" Combs, Javier Bardem and Eva Longoria. But no such luck this year. Maybe he should change his name to "the artist formerly known"

From accounts on other threads I'd say he had about the same A-list level last night. Whats with all the negative Nancy's on the org lately?

Oh man. He was called "The Artist Formerly Known" by the UK press already in 1998. Better luck calling him that next decade!

I guess Prince will NEVER change his bad habits...I'm not going to start naming them...and if he needs someone to POINT Them out to him...I'm willing to do that razz

I agree Prince is the A list and by other accounts he had several A list participants...for a last minute party..that is still the bomb. Also, it is sad how many Orgers are so negative...come on, we have much to celebrate, he's almost back home to us again, including concerts ...so let's speak life...the negative stuff is so old, let us be on the building side it's more empowering cool

That paper/website is a pile of shit. Most of the press in the UK, music rags included seem to get the basic facts wrong with Prince. I guess these people think he's yesterday's star, so fair game to slag off.

The problem with that, is that if he's such a nobody, why report him?

apparently this paper/website has no clue...
They make it seem as though Prince had no one there so he threw the doors open....yet in reality, it was already known that the public would be let in for 100.00..Not to mention, that could have been one reason not as many celebs went (because public was there) Not that there is anything wrong with public and celebs at the after party together, I am just saying, celebs may not care for that atmoshphere...

Is anybody else now willing to finally stand up and admit that the emperor has no clothes on? So many of you are refusing to front up and admit it probably wasn't a successful/solid move - gargling down that purple cool-aid as if your life depended on it.
So it was far from sold out, no A-list celebs, virtually all covers and he looks as healthy as patrick swayze?

Damn, what happened?....

The final insult would be to release a live video of this covers debacle over the once hinted-at/promised coachella concert.

Sad...

Nows where the angered, in denial, dumbed-down purple cool-aid drinkers flame/attack an honest observation of the reported FACTS...

Who cares? Everyone who attended had a blast, whats the point of being so negative? it wasnt sold out because it wasnt announced publicly, only people who come to this site and dr funkenberry knew about it, not every Prince fans visits either site, there were also plenty of Post Oscar parties to attend, some of which most celeb agents, publicists, managers suggested their clients attend for networking reasons, it wasnt a dis to Prince.

Plus maybe some people couldnt afford the $100.

So he needs to come to South Carolina and perform! He already knows there would be 3 of us in the audience. What more does he need!? lol (But he needs to wait until I'm over the flu cuz I'm not going anywhere right now.)

I don't know if this has been posted already, but here's another not so good news related to Prince's afterparty last night from Fox News:

Prince’s After-Party Embarrassment

Last year, Prince hosted the hottest post-Oscar party in town in his private Hollywood Hills residence, but we’re told this year the "Purple Rain" man pulled the plug at the last minute as he didn’t want to dish out the dosh and it was too hard to get sponsors to sign up. Tarts was told just a few days ago that invites had gone out and that Prince himself was checking the guest list personally to ensure no "trashy Tinseltown types" were invited.

But according to Prince’s peeps, he was in the middle of band rehearsals and didn’t even know he was again playing party host until Marion Cotillard called to RSVP and he then read about it in the papers last week along with you and I. Hmmm, sounds a little off as the party planners had been co-coordinating the bash for quite sometime. ...

In light of the buzz, Prince’s personal public relations team rallied around to put together some-kind-of-something at Hollywood club Avalon/Bardot (although Prince probably would have been better off having an early night) and told Tarts that the show would be a for "few lucky fans" and of course his fave actress, Marion Cotillard. We did however spot the French beauty at the Vanity Fair party instead. ...

Just a few hours before the scheduled start-time suddenly tickets for the initially "exclusive" party and performance went on-sale for $100, although the media alert seemed to be more just a plug for his website LOTUSFLOW3R.com and even included "requested on-air captions and photo captions" promoting the "highly interactive site," but the Web site hasn’t even launched yet … even more strange.

Unlike last year’s star-studded soiree which attracted A-listers like Orlando Bloom, Elton John, Sean Penn, Petra Nemcova, Penelope Cruz, Stevie Wonder, Kate Beckinsale and Eva Longoria this party had no names attached and when we tried to find out why we were told that Prince is so particular about who is invited and keeps cutting the list.

But clearly Prince didn’t really want to be involved in the whole affair himself, as he refused to do any press and wouldn’t even pose for the photographers and fans and all were strictly told to put their cameras away as he rushed inside.

Ouch.

Late notice or not, I'm genuinely surprised Prince wasn't able to sell out such a small venue. He wasn't playing in the middle of the dessert but in one of the highest populated cities in North America.
No hard feelings.

Oh, come on. The details were finalized very late...it was a Sunday night...and the show didn't start until 1:45 a.m. I assume that, even in LA, most people have to work for a living. And I'm sure there were many who didn't want to take a day of vacation on the off-chance they'd actually be able to get in - especially since it was billed as a tough ticket.
