Act II Tour (1993) Is this the tour that started it all? That Prince performs a few new songs and does the usual "hits"? Wasn't this tour supposed to be the last one to feature the hits, but then he realized he can only tour with setlists like Act II?
And what are the thoughts on this tour? To me the setlist is a bit messed up: "Purple Rain" in the middle? The last several song don't really work, "1999" / "Baby I'm A Star" and those songs from Come aren't really big finale material. The piano medley seems to be a copy from Lovesexy Tour, not to mention how "When Doves Cry" is relegated to 10 seconds... I'm interested to hear some personal experiences from this tour as well!

Yeah, not a great setlist although some of the songs from the "symbol" album were good to hear. I remember in Paris he came on really late..the crowd were booing the NPG ( poor Levi!) who had a set on their own. For the encores there seemed to be some curfew problem as the lights went up and Prince came back on looking pissed off ( poor baby!)). He did some encores though including a blistering America. Was good but not great. I was with two "non" Prince fans who weren't particularly impressed.

Act II was the first tour I ever saw- Radio City Music Hall, NYC. I had $35. nosebleed seats. I was so excited & was blown away! I've seen Prince live 28 times since then, but that show will always be special to me because it was my 1st. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

I was in the third last row for one of those shows there. I think people were just happy to see him onstage again.

Yeah, I wanted to say not counting that era when he officially ignored the hits. After that period he did go back to setlists like Act II, right?

The highlight of the Act II Tour was discovering that the Game Boyz were no longer in the band.

After that period he did go back to setlists like Act II, right? yeah, the 1997 love4oneanother charity tour featured old classics like raspberry beret, purple rain, take me with u, if eye was ur girlfriend, 17 days and do me baby. the following Jam of the year tour added songs like Little red corvette, Delirious, Lets work, I could never..., I would die 4 u and loads others

I had a great cd of the Act 1 Chicago shows (Act II was Europe, and the setlist changed up somewhat), and the Gameboyz were there, and Tony M raps on "Sexy MF" and a couple of others, and does his little parts on "The Continental" and "Gett Off". It was after this tour (or at least after Act I) when they parted ways.
That said, the music on this tour was really great. The first half was the Symbol album, the second half all classics, followed by a high-energy medley encore. The Hornheadz added a lot to this show, and the second half opening of "Let's Go Crazy", "Kiss" and "Irresistable Bitch", with the band doing one stop-on-a-dime turnaround after another, was really killer.

^Act II setlist was very different from Act I, he only did like 5 songs from Love Symbol (3 of them in the beginning) and the rest was hits.
Did he ever perform anything from Lovesexy on this tour? Weird that it's the only major album to be left out...
