His most influentual song

which song do you all think had the most impact on those who made music.alot of critics would point out "when doves cry"..but i'd say "nasty girl'.it had immediate song-a-like songs come after it like "juicy" and even today with "slave for u"

1999 influenced a Phil Collins song which was a big hit...

Also, 1999 influenced the song "Manic Monday", ironically written by Prince himself. He influenced himself.

The song 1999 influenced tons of journalists and conversationalists to use the term "party like it's 1999" even to this date.

I have a feeling the idea of 1999 influenced Prince to write 2045: Radical Man, in the sense that in 1983 he wrote a song about 1999, and he'd live to be in that year in the future. So, now he writes 2045 so he can experience that same sort of vertigo in the year 2045. Assuming he is still alive then. I think Prince is into time travel.

Little Red Corvette.

If nothing else, it influenced Stevie's Stand Back & I'm sure a great deal of copycat R&B artists of the era.

Erotic City defined a sound back in the day that I still hear in hip-hop today.

I'd say I keep hearing remnants of "Housequake" all over the place. Ofcourse it influenced "Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani and I think in turn songs like "Lost" by Coldplay and "Halo" by Beyonce.

Tough question...

I would say Darling Nikki. He had been writing songs like Head and Sister before, but this is maybe the first time the masses heard his raunchiness. Plus there's the whole Parental Advisory bit.

Maybe even Purple Rain since so many people saw the movie/bought the album.

If I Was Your Girlfriend I would think would have to be up there also.

If I had to guess it would be Let's Go Crazy- the fastest song on the radio when it came out, Purple Rain - THE 80's cigarette lighter anthem, or Kiss because it completely tore away the idea that an artist is supposed to make the same sounding album the rest of their life(from PR's rock to Kiss' R&B sound).
To me there really is no one song of his, because his music really is a work in progress. Vernon Reid once said the Prince of Purple Rain is NOT the Prince from Sign of the Times... and I would add, the Prince of today is not the Prince from the late 80's or 90's, because he has evolved so much in such short periods of time. That's why I love his music.

Influencial on what? The world, the music industry, his career, pop culture...what? There are different songs that may have defined a period in time but what are you looking for specifically?

Most big name artists from back in the day like Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan, David Bowie seem to all mention "Little Red Corvette" as the Prince song that they played a lot, admired, and perhaps indicated a new flavor of pop hit song in their own following work.

Obviously Stand Back was claimed to have been written/demo'd after she heard Little Red Corvette on her radio, then she actually got Prince to come in and program/arrange the beat and keys.

For me it's KISS ....The iconic status of this track and of course that video....that great video....for me this is the ultimate pop song...the music , the lyrics ...the subject matter...the whole structure of the song is a work of art and it's always fresh after 1,000+ plays

I think over the years this track has become bigger than Thriller by MJ because ...the MJ video is great but the song is just rubbish.
Da, Da, Da....Emancipation....Free..don't think I ain't..! London 21 Nights...Clap your hands...you know the rest..
James Brown & Michael Jackson RIP, your music still lives with us!

thats why i suggested nasty girl because the programin of the linn sounds like everything timbaland and the neptunes do.not that when doves cry isnt an excellent song but the most radical thing about it is that there is no base.i just wanna mention too how much prince has influenced artists from the virginia area.me'shell n'degaocello(i cant spell that)is from dc.the neptunes, timbaland, missy are from va beach.dave grohl is from alexandria and d'angelo is from richmond.
