Leonard bloody Cohen.....come on.... bored

People who don't appreciate Mr. Cohen's work are obviously deaf. The man's voice tends to drone, true. But lyrically he'll knock you on your ass.

No...my ears are fine ...and his music is overhyped ...and his lyrics ...please... if James Brown was as hyped as him he'd still be having hit records in the charts today....jeezy.. sad

This is a crazy analogy, you might as well had titled it Kenny G vs. P. What little I know of Leonard Cohen aside from his song Hallelujah, he is not even in the same style as Prince. He's certainly not a dance style or party style singer, so its not possible to compare him to Prince. Plus, Cohen is seventy four years old, He doesn't have to shake and shimmy to entertain you as P is expected to when in concert.

I think the two are closer than you think. Firstly, Prince was HUGELY influenced by a certain Canadian singer-songwriter and good friend of Cohen's, Joni Mitchell, and others close in jenre to Cohen like Muldaur (sp?). So stylistically, at times they aren't SO dissimilar. And of course Leonard CAN shake and shimmy! (see what he does when singing 'and a white man dancing...' during 'The Future'). 'First We Take Manhatten' is pretty much funk - same with 'Jazz Police'. But I think they're in some way drawing from the same deep well... and both sing about oral sex, so there!

Granted, it's a completely apples-and-oranges question. A bit like asking if you'd rather go to the moon or read your favourite book, but what's so ridiculous about it?

Personally, I was pleasantly surprised to see Leonard Cohen's name dropped here. Makes a refreshing change from the Jackson-related threads that can even clutter up this forum.[/quote]

err..shouldn't this be on the forum Music: non prince.
What's so ridiculous about it you ask...well lets continue the trend then eh?...would you rather see Prince or the boss...or how about Prince or David Bowie...no, no How about Prince or Mick Jagger...Do I need to go on?...Last time I checked, I was on prince org discussing all things Prince and not having to think about why I would choose to see another artist over the artist I'm on here wanting to talk about to fellow minded individuals....you two should go over to the other forum and continue all things LC! And as for being pleasantly suprised to see L.C name on here, do either of these names suprise you:

Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog, Laurel & Hardy, Snoopy.....enough already.
I heard the rip when you sat down!

Are you on the right fan club? I'm a member of a lot of fan clubs and I have never heard this type of question posed before! What type of question is this?

I might go and see Leonard Cohen but to suggest I would go and see him over Prince is ridiculous...bit like your question.

The point is this: The subject matter is the same - i.e. Sex and God. If you like Prince, then Cohen will blow your mind. This is almost certainly your LAST CHANCE to see Cohen. EVER! The show is unlike anything you will ever see again - JUST GO!

HAHAHA you probably are Leonard Cohen trying to make some advertisement cause no one wants to see your shows razz

Who would you rather see in concert? Me, Leonard every time, without a shadow of doubt. If you want a dose of sex and religion, tears and laughter (and acrobatics by cute female backing singers!) go see Leonard while you've still got the chance. It'll be the best concert you will ever see. Trust me. Cohen's 2009 American concerts will sell out instantly. Presales are starting now.

i love leonard cohen. if i have to pick because of the question here i would go see prince first, but cohen i admire very much as well.

But no one's 'forcing you' to contribute anything. If you don't like the topic, ignore it. As a matter of logic it is in fact possible that both Prince and Leonard Cohen could be playing in the same city on the same day, and you would have to face this question. I'm not asking you whether you'd prefer Prince or sticking your head in a vat of boiling oil while playing Russian roulette on the one of Saturn's outer moons.

What in God's name are you talking about?

Yes, I do mean the Prince forum. The Jacksons even creep there way on here. As for comparing Prince to other artists -why not? He's a musician among musicians, and I think it's interesting to check out what he does and doesn't have in common with his peers.
