Wall said: xlr8r said: So people already knew he would play covers? Even if one wa sprivy to any kin dof setlist, if anyone here on this board had a chance to go beforehand, yall would be lined the funk up lol It certainly would have been the safe money. Has he been anything more than a glorified cover/greatest hits act for the past few years? No doubt seeing Prince live can be a treat but would I have paid 100.00 to see him thump through Play That Funky Music? Not a chance. And there's your reason why he can't even sell out a small club: people have become bored with the repetitive act. Or, for those that aren't too familiar with his music, they just aren't interested in paying 100.00 for a Prince show. Max capacity: 800 people. One night only. Prince... NOT sold out. Hilarious. 800 people? You can get a bigger crowd than that to watch someone fuck a goat. Get one C-list celeb like Evan Rachel Wood to show & you can double that crowd. I guess the days of excitement over the "hit & run" style of shows are long gone.

You don't work in Prince's camp, so you don't know that, and neither does anyone else on this board, including myself. You can make as many suggestions as you so wish, and that is your free will of course but the bottom line is, it's s all up to Prince who he hires and fires. All you can do is wait and see what happens next, that's just about it. Look you don't need to put your hand in the fire to know it's gonna get burned....really how last minute was this gig....we are adults and we know that last minute in 2009 is not really last minute...we have the internet and computers in our pockets ...get really ...this is a PR mess up and they PR don't know his market ....young and old... Most if not all of us on this site have seen Prince ...and we buy not only his music but other artist as well....so we no how good the man is as a musician ....so you got the best ...and it don't sell come on... Look they could of done this with MJ or Madonna and it would have sold out....now ask yourself the question is it bad PR ??? or is MJ and Madonna a bigger name than Prince ??? .... If it was MJ or Madonna, the tickets would have been a lot more expensive and most of the fans would not have been able to attend. I think Prince did this show for his fans. If he wanted a celebrity only party, it would have been at his house. He invited us to attend an Oscar after show for only $100.00 and here we are complaining. I also think that if he should have sold tickets through his web site. If a fan had a ticket in hand, the attendance would have been higher. Not too many people are willing to line up all day for a chance at purchasing a ticket. Prince fans are getting older now. I am always surprised to find on these lines that very few people know about the org, HQ, or even Prince's sites. The average Prince fan does not get their info this way. I think that this show was to please his hard core fan base, but of course nothing pleases some of us. I still wish I was there. The reports I read sounded good to me. I think many of the US audience are spoiled. The "I'm not seeing Prince if he does covers" etc is just mind boggling to me! I would line up for hours to see the man perform! Hell he could do the chicken dance and Im sure his spin on it would be funky!! I nearly fell off my chair to see someone only lived 5 blocks away and couldn't be bothered going!

Right, it's the org's fault that Prince's star is fading. They were obviously somewhere else, that's for sure. Likely eating a chocolate-y desert. I sorry many of you were discouraged to show up for whatever reason.
Quit creating phony excuses for why it ended up being such a lame show. People didn't go because they weren't willing to spend a hundred dollars to see Prince play covers. It's that simple. There's no magic purple bullet leading back to the org's grassy knoll. And where's Funkenberry's review? Gee, funny how such a lame show hasn't gotten reviewed isn't it? He must be between a rock and a hard place since he knows anybody that reads his blog has already read reports of how lame the show was so he can't come out with some "Lawd it was 2 Funky" review yet he also can't criticize it too heavily because otherwise, Prince will find someone else to be his willing internet puppet. [Edited 2/24/09 5:58am] Wow, who peed in your coffee today? You don't sound like someone who was there. For the people who were there (of which I was one), I don't think any of them would've called it "such a lame show". Nor was there a sign that announced Prince would be playing covers. And I could write extensively of why going to a Prince concert wouldn't have been the correct networking/career move for celebs, in light of other options as simple as the Governor's Ball, which has absolutely no bearing on Prince's A-list status. Talk about getting your facts... or your pompous, vitriolic opinions straight.

I wish I could have been there. i'm curious as 2 y u think it's boggling that when a artist of prince's calibur with many unreleased and a full body of work, would chose 2 do other artists songs (some he's been doing over and over 4 2 years now and more), wouldn't fuss about forking over hard earned cash just cause it's prince playing? it could simply b a stance of saying he's capable of doing so much more than the covers and the same songs over and over. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Last minute? It was announced days in advance and advertised on television and radio. It also had the 'buzz' of the laughable pr stunt "Prince found out he was having a party," which went out to every major media outlet. I'll grant that all things considered there wasn't a ton of time but it was for 800 people. 800. He's Prince and he was in Los Angeles and he couldn't find 800 people to see him live. Posters on this thread have given the real reason for why he couldn't sell under a thousand tickets: they just didn't feel like being bothered to go see the show. People didn't turn out because they didn't have enough interest to see him play. Did they know it was going to be a covers show? No, but anyone following Prince over the past x-many years could certainly make that educated guess. And I don't care if he announced it an hour before he took the stage (which is how word often spreads for after shows) the fact that 800 people in such a densely populated area of the country didn't turn out speaks volumes for where Prince's star is currently at. As far as the show itself, it was yet another misfire for Lotusflower. He gathers people to promote the site and what happens when anyone goes there? It's got a few pictures of some unrecognizable woman, a lite-fm Sade rip-off, an impish Pro-Tools instrumental and a dad-rock song. Wow, great way to keep interest high, Prince. Oh for crying out loud. The party is over and done with. It won't be the end of Prince's career because of it. Life goes on and he will always have fans, regardless of obsessive complainers, such as yourself, who think the man should do things according to your ideas or standards, and who just b*tch all day on this site, just waiting for the man to fall, but just be careful how you wish for his downfall as your wish may just turn on you. No artist will ever be able to please every, single fan. I'm sure after 30 years he knows that, but it's obvious he never let any negative criticism stop his success. It's one thing to criticize, but yours is way over the top and pretty much on borderline stalkerism. I hope one day you find peace with yourself and divorce yourself from being miserable. Peace Dude.
