not that i know of. i've read rumblings of a meeting between prince and bowie in 1987, when prince attended a glass spider tour show and allegedly invited bowie and his band to paisley park to jam afterwards. i don't know much about that, though i wish i did.

Maybe they did some tracks 2 gether? Sam 8) They've never worked together though it's a shame that when Prince was still making relevant music he didn't do something with Bowie as opposed to the talentless horde of proteges he was attempting to sell to the public as viable musicians and/or singers. There's certainly an obvious correlation between Bowie and Prince's rise to fame from their early careers which were heavy on androgyny and trailblazing music into their more regal phases, Prince with Parade, Bowie at stops and starts from Young Americans to Scary Monsters. I've never heard much of a Bowie influence in Prince's music however which is a shame. Prince was certainly a unique talent and one of the most vital figures in the history of pop but the majority of sounds he was influenced by were rather, as far as I can gather, a who's who of popular music from his youth and formative years. Perhaps if he'd gone beyond Top 40 pop and soul he'd still have something to offer today beyond regurgitated pop and r/b. For evidence of this, see his choice of some recent covers: Let's Go by the Cars and for the billionth time, a Sly Stone medley. Crimson and Clover is a capable cover that would make a tidy b-side but imagine had he turned his talent to something from Ziggy or the aforementioned Scary Monsters and Super Creeps. No hard feelings.

In LIFE magazine 25 years of Rock & Roll special issue, David Bowie say: "I don't like Nirvana, I think they will be remembered for that one song, I think the only one doing something special right now is Prince" Something like that, I need to go over my old magazines boxes to get the right quote. Bowies last two albums were great... but he suffers from what all aging artists suffer from (via the public), people don't recognize the new stuff, they'll always identify him with stuff he did 20-25 years ago.
That said I think a Bowie / Prince collaboration (while extremely unlikely) would be awesome. A double-headling concert with the two of them appearing on each others songs like Bowie did with NIN would be insane.. Change it one more time..

He's still making relevant music and holding onto his dignity. He's not attempting to mimic the sounds and trends of artists like Hannah Montana and Brooke Hogan. Can you imagine Bowie singing that horrendous, self-parody in action of a song "Chocolate Box." No hard feelings.

Sam 8) Surely you're joking: Apollonia, Vanity, Sheena Easton, Tony M, Scrap D and DVS (to name but a few) are hardly "masters" or "pioneers".

While I agree with the essence of what you're saying, we should remember that when Bowie was Prince's current age he too was trying to find himself with a "younger" sound (in Earthling... which I liked btw). 50's a rough age... its officially "old". I think it really scares most people and they sometimes want to resist that label and do so by embracing their youthfulness for one last time. Change it one more time..

I could definitely see a Prince/Bowie performance; doing renditions of one another's songs but a new collaboration/project seems unlikely. Either the different styles of music would clash or someone's ego would get in the way.

Was it Bowie or Prince who, in response to being asked about this, said "You should have been there."...? Prince. He stated this on a web-based Q&A -session on his very first own website after the release of "Emancipation". He was asked by a fan whether he would like to work with David Bowie if given the chance. He was probably referring to the late eighties meeting(s). btw, something remotely sounding like cockney doesn't necessarily mean it's a David Bowie -related issue, just thought I'd mention...
