These Prince songs would be perfect, if only...

... if only there were rock guitar solos on "The Love We Make" (I'd even take a Mike Scott take) and on "Mountains"

... if there were some cool saxophone on "Joy in Repetition"

... if there were a real sax on "Resolution" instead of the cheesy keyboard sax

... if there were real drums and instrumentation on most of NuPowerSoul

... if "Alexis de Paris" were sandwiched between "Venus de Milo" and "Mountains."

... if the distorted guitar on "Hot Thing" were mixed a little louder

... and lastly (for now), "Temptation" didn't have that weird God-Prince dialogue at the end. Totally ruins the song. rolleyes

yeah. a whole other song might have been added without that lengthy outro. and there were a lot of good ones to pick from at the time.

But, I wouldn't have minded it being a closing track unto itself.

... if "swimming in your love sea/swivel in your love seat" were clearer on "Lovesexy," if only to prevent the debate that persists all these years later

I couldn't agree more with the thread starter about "Temptation". That dialogue just kills that song.

As far as my choices, I'd nix the rapping from
"2 the 9's".

"Acknowledge Me" should have faded out just before the second rap begins.

The rap in "Willing and Able" shouldn't be there. Now that I think of it, I could go on and on with how many great songs were ruined with corny raps. I even think "Alphabet Street" should have ended where it does in the video. (there's a few songs where the rapping worked, but not many).

'Joy in Repetition' should be left alone, as should 'Hot Thing'... if you want the guitar mixed higher, get the 12".

'Resolution' would have been improved if they'd forgotten to press the record button.

Be specific about Nu Power Soul... Songs like Madsex, Shoobedo, That KC and the Sunshine band song towards the start of the album... haven't listened to it in ages, and Wasted Kisses are all pretty good as they stand. Oh, and Freaks on this side...

'Temptation' is magnificent. Leave it be. You can't blame 'Alexa de Paris' for not being between two songs... make a mix tape! And, leave 'The Love We Make' and 'Mountains' alone too... stop trying to ruin marvellous songs!

One Prince song that would have been perfect, if only... would be Purple Rain... if he'd left it in the vault, it would have served its purpose in inspiring his crossover into the mainstream without us actually having to have listened to it lol

ALSO - 'Take me with you' would be perfect if it didn't include singing by another person.

'The Family' would have been perfect if Prince had recorded the lyrics himself.

'America' would have been perfect if it didn't sound like 'Baby I'm A Star' at the beginning.

Joy In Repetition could do with the guitar being louder - no sax please.

Mountains is perfect.

Love We Make is nowhere near.

It would take more than live drums to make New Power Soul 'perfect'

Temptation is cool

America would be perfect if the chorus was different.

Any of his RnB would be perfect if he let someone else sing, record, write the material. There are so many greater artists in this field.

Bob George would be perfect if... oh, wait a minute, it is perfect.

Really? America's chorus? I love the flag-waving innocence of the song, in that regard... it's why I can't listen to 'Free'. Such partisan-patriotism smacks of uninformed insecurity... and adds to Prince's charm... in a peverse way.

That depends on the listeners perception of perfection. I woke up to perfection this morning. She couldn't be more beautiful if she tried.

Definately.

That might be a bit overkill for me. I like the sequencing of Venus into Mountains (the whole LP is sequenced exceedingly well IMO)

Friend, "that would be perfect" merely speaks to musical and artistic preference. And, they matter because we who frequent this site discuss such things.

By and large, the overall thread speaks to appreciation of Prince's music. I'm sure he's not offended. If he is, I'm sure he'll get over it as soon as he's appropriately distracted.

"Ohmigosh, Prince! Look! What's that over there?!?"

See? All better.

Contribute or keep it moving.

Tangerine should have been longer and given another verse

All my dreams - the middle part should have been much clearer, and it should have been released
