You had to peruse the back pages of Goldmine magazine. You had to have contacts and like-minded cohorts. You subscribed to fanzines, just to know what was actually out there. You had to hit the bricks and go to collector-friendly record shops or go to record shows. You paid a seller for these wares, not an internet provider for bandwidth.

And... you got home and unwrapped an actual collectable piece of music history. You carefully placed that item into or onto your audio device, making sure that said history could be preserved as long as it would be on your watch.

Then you listened to the fruits of your labors and hard earned cash. Good days, indeed.
