Promise Of A New Day - Paula Abdul - Spellbound Album - Did Prince write this?

This track has Prince's style all over it, sounds like the stuff he did for Martika. I know he did the track U on her album, but I dont see any credit for Promise Of A New Day.

Peace

There were paisley park credits on that album, but I can't remember if Promise of a New Day was one of them. The song reminds me more of something off Rhythm Nation, but then again we all know how that's connected to Prince indirectly...

I always thought this sounded like Prince. It was terrible in Paula's hands, though.

If I'm not mistaken Prince wrote the song "U" which is on the "Spellbound" album.

I thought that was one of the Family Stand tracks. I could be wrong.

I thought that fact was buried in my pile of useless music trivia. Along with Steve Winwood being a great guitarist and such.

I would be VERY surprised if this is not a Prince track, even though it lacks the appropriate credits. Youtube this track or throw in the CD if you have it to refresh your memory on how this track sounds, if it is not Prince it is a dang good copy!

peace all

Well, The Family Stand is a great band (in the Sandra St Victor line-up that is!) which should have had much more recognition. Promise of A New Day does indeed sound like a commercialized Prince-tune and is actually quite a catchy track.

Definitely, the Egyptian sounding keyboards throughout and the backing vocals are very very catchy. Paula was the fad back then, it's unfortunate that this wasn't given to someone with a better voice. This song would have fit perfectly on the Martika album alongside Don't Say U Love Me, Spirit and Love Thy Will Be Done.
