I'll have to convert the performance from my VHS tape to a divx, maybe upload it to YouTub... oh wait. I can't do that. I'll get sued by Prince. Forget it.

Prince takes all the fun out of being a fan.

I kept thinking this was the same time that he tried to give Quincy Jones the lollipop, and pulled it away (Q was actually trying to lick it). But that was the Dick Clark awards show and it was also lip synced... I remember the announcer came on while Michael B. was on the drums, saying something like "Prince is dead and The Artist is born!" or something really cheesy. Carmen Electra was dancing, and Prince lip synced to some Gold songs (BJB, I Hate U, and 319).

At the end of the performance, there was a shot of the crowd... everyone looking pretty underwhelmed, especially Little Richard, who only started clapping as the camera went by him. LOL. The good ole' (NPG) days.

I absolutely love the AMA performance, lipsynching and all. To me, this was absolutely classic mid-'90s Prince. The performance was brilliant in so many ways. I seriously mean that.

Prince actually KNELT DOWN and looked like he was simulating fellatio on Tommy Barbarella! Right on national TV! That's just awesome. I think what you interpret as the audience being underwhelmed was actually their trepidation at the moment that just happened. At one point during Prince's performance, the camera pulled away and the picture went to a still shot of the audience--like the director was terrified of what Prince might do next. I think this was an incredibly brazen and ballsy performace.

Hell yeah!! the way he came out during BJB and started doing that funky dance move ..and the camera pulled back when mayte spread her legs

but the worse per4mance ever was the superbowl barf wasted opportunity
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Wonder y he did so much lip synching during that time?!? That award show per4mance could've been great, but the lip synching did nothing 4 me.I also didn't like the "Prince is dead" thing.neutral I can't believe I'm agreeing with u!! omg giggle

i haven't seen this part with him watching Gordy(don't know who this is).
What is Prince doing?

By the way, I love the different opinions even amongst hardcore fans...
some liked the AMA's some didn't, some didn't like the Superbowl halftime--I thought it was brilliant. Just goes to show you, you(edited) can't please everyone, especially Princey Poo!

Worst performance for me: the live 'Lovesign' on the Today Show. I like the original, but it just shows how some songs are not meant to be played live, no matter how great they are on record.
(most recent best performance 'Fury' on SNL...wow!!!)

Oh my GOD. That performance of Lovesign was amazing. One of the best.

His guitar sounded FANTASTIC. Barbarella rocked on the keys.

Everyone in the band LOOKED cool and weird.

That was also my favorite Prince band line-up of all time, including Mayte.

Mayte looked hot as fuck. That was her hottest time period.

Prince's hair was genius.

Nona Gaye was an added bonus.

Mr. Hayes looked cool as shit in that hoody.

Then Prince ran off before he could be interviewed.

Michael B looked insane while Nona was being interviewed.

It was genius all around.

LOVESIGN!

His most recent appearance on Good Morning America. First, there was the dick move of putting up a barricade so no one could see the rehearsal (never done by any other performer there) & then the ridiculously abbreviated set. There were nearly 8,000 people crammed into Bryant Park & the surrounding area, but he was gone in a flash & for no good reason.

No offense, but not showing his rehearsal is Prince to a T: he likes to show the finished product.
I would've thought he'd stick around to play more, but he did perform 3 or 4 songs, not bad for a free concert.

That reminds me.. Beautiful Loved and Blessed from SNL was really weak, especially after that hot "Fury" performance.

Again, Prince fans can't even agree on performances. I liked both SNL performances, but agree Fury was amazing. BLB has just beautiful lyrics and need to be heard.

I think the performance that disappointed me the most was the one he did on the Essence Awards when he did The Christ. I was going confuse when he started talking about the "staros" or whatever you wanna call it. That's the one performance that I wouldn't want to watch again.

It was a then 5 year old from France who had an international hit I believe was called, in English, "It's Good To Be A Baby." It was strange but cute, the song and the performance. Seeing Prince's face during the performance was hilarious.

Well, I've seen better too. I've been to AFTERSHOWS. wink

I've also seen (FAR) worse Super Bowl halftime shows. U2 was the only one that came close in my opinion.

But I can rattle off at least 3 or 4 friends of mine who declined invites to see the Musicology tour when it rolled through here who - after seeing that halftime show - said , "I'm sold. The next time he tours here, I want to go. I wish I had gone."

But fuck all that. To contribute to the topic, aside from the obvious "MJ, James Brown, Prince" meltdown we've all seen, the worst performance I think I've seen (assuming we're talking about TV broadcasts or something like that) was probably the 'Solid Gold' show.

I was there too. 10 feet from the stage. & not only was blocking the view of the rehearsal a dick move, but so was not engaging with the crowd at all & cutting & running. People who go to these things (not to mention the show's organizers) have expectations that the talent should be expected to meet. I've seen performers at those sorts of shows stick around & play six or seven songs, & they'll do so even after the cameras stop rolling. If being a dick fits Prince to a T, that's not something to be cheery about.

You should know that as big a control freak as Prince is, the sound problems were probably his own fault.

I can't speak for the sound stuff cause I'm not skilled in that area but as for performing extra songs, I heard from friends that when Prince was on the Today Show in the 90's, he did stick around and do extra songs, so I wouldn't be so quick to say that he was being a dick for the sake of being a dick. I could be wrong but I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Besides, I enjoyed myself with the 3 songs he did and I hope he comes back on one of those shows here and does it again, with a better sound system too. lol
