Honestly...I like the Shondells version...BUT, I actually like Prince's better. Don't ask me why...

You can never do a cover as good as the original but I have to say Prince comes close! His version is an amazing cover and as I've said before it's his best cover ever IMO

Mostly true, but how about "one of us"?

Last nite at the bar, I casually typed in Crimson and Clover in the jukebox.. thinking At least to hear the Tommy James version.... and found a version by Dolly Parton?!?... so i thought ahh, what the hell... it was a rather nice version. But I gotta admit Prince's is best!

Y wood Tommy Sue Prince?....Tommy obviously thought enough of Prince to let him cover the song. It's also info'd on his website. And from what i've read tommy lovez Prince's version. wink

Oh and as for whos version is better...they all represent different time periods...theyre all great! cool

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

i think the original (tommy james and them) is the best smile. great "classic rock" song. might not have heard if it wasn't for p's version though. i like his second cool. i tried to listen to joan jett's version, but i wasn't feeling it smile.

A verygood and cool cover but it never left me wanting more like this cover does. However would have to say that's his next best smile

This is an easy question to answer. No matter how good a "cover" song is, it can "never" be better than the original. I think even Prince would admit this.

There are always exceptions. Prince has changed up the song enough that it has

taken a life of it's own. The "Wild Thing" mash-up and the intoxicating

guitar licks make this the best version. Otherwise, I would agree that covers

are often never as good as the originals. Oh and his vocal delviery is superb.
I've got a guitar that can part the sea.

I vote for Tommy James and the Shondells. I don't care too much for Prince's version, to be honest. I don't like it when Prince does covers of other people's songs. But I probably am the minority here, since most of you don't seem to mind it.

I liked Joan Jett's version.

Joan had that sexy underlying girl on girl swag happening.

If you've ever heard Joan sing "Starf*****" by The Stones you'd know what I mean.
