Depends on what mood P's in. 3121 was for the masses, mainstream could dig Black Sweat. The problem is, he seems to be making music solely for himself once again. I guess we just need to accept that and enjoy his material for what it is. [Edited 2/16/09 1:10am]

Lol @ this question. The demographic that he generally appeals to whether he means to or not is the crowd that grew up with him. Probably mid-late 30's to mid 40's. Before anyone points out, obviously there are exceptions to the rule. [Edited 2/16/09 1:51am] Worlds most beloved Orger

I've always wondered how the people that were not around during his greatest times are so into him now. I mean if you couldn't have witnessed that man back in the 80's, when there was no one in the business that could touch him?! I mean we've got the American idol set that have never even been to a Prince concert and are still asking how to get his music. What's up with that? [Edited 2/16/09 2:00am]

My guess (And its a guess)
Proper fans Educated middle class African Americans aged 25-50, Homosexual caucasian males 25-45, Worldwide white males and females, average to high education, good employment, high disposable income. Educated American straight females of African American, white and Hispanic) aged 25-45. Occasional lower class African American males and females of same age demographic. Teens and early 20s to a small degree in all races. Open minded Nordic Europeans defined in areas including Britain, Northern France, Benelux, Germany and Scandinavia. Some fans Australia, NZ, Argentina/Chile/Uruguay, a few Mexicans and Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Israel, Cyprus and Malta. Thats my guess at least. But hes probably biggest with gay guys and African American women and nordic people. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

[Edited 2/16/09 1:10am] Why is that a problem though? Dayclear said: I've always wondered how the people that were not around during his greatest times are so into him now. Prince doesn't have a particular demographic. He appeals to all ages, races and gender. If you ever go to a U.S. concert you will notice a nice melting pot of Americans. Wake up!......Wake up!

Good answer - agreed One of the reasons I like Prince is all the different types of people his music attracts. His concerts are a great mix of people! This the beauty of his music The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

It's not a simple answer.
Look at his crowd during a concert and you with see a wide range or age and culture. Is this the same demo that spends $$$$ on his albums? I am not sure. I tend to think that his new albums are purchased by his existing fans..yet I saw a 16 year old girl/woman buying Purple Rain at Target just the other day. So, what is Prince's demographic? "New Power slide...."

You forgot highly-educated, high income professional African-American males and females 30 - early 50s, and some older. I know some lawyers, nurses, educators that are members on this site and meet that demographic and have shown up at his concerts.

Serbia probably has some big time Prince fans but I was not really describing people who bought Purple Rain (And I surprised the communist authorities of the time would allow decadent capitalist music). True fans are ones who have most albums and take a geniune interest in the man. I forgot to mention Japan has a huge Prince following and I suspect a few wealthy Chinese, Taiwanese, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Koreans like him too. I know Michael Jackson used to be a god in these areas So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

His lyrics are not that difficult to understand.... LOL High income? I don't think so. [Edited 2/16/09 15:16pm]

It is worth noting that Prince is one of the most famous/well known musicians who ever lived...all over the globe. Are we talking about hardcore fans who are into everything Prince, or casual fans? "New Power slide...."
