My homemade official Prince: Live album

In January 1995 prince offered a live album to Warner Brothers with tracks from the Sign "O" The Times, Lovesexy, Nude, Diamonds & Pearls, Act I and Act II tours. But that ended up not happening. sad

But with the NPG Ahdio Shows in 2001-2002 we got the next best thing when Prince included live tracks. Collect all the live tracks from the NPG Ahdio Shows, put them together in the order of release and you get this double album:

Prince Live: NPGMC Ahdio Show
Disc 1:
We March (Live from Paisley Park 1995) (3:30)
Vicki Waiting (Live from Paisley Park 1995) (3:52)
Letitgo (Live from Paisley Park 1995) (3:46)
America (Live 1986) (2:50)
Christopher Tracy’s Parade (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (1:38)
New Position (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (2:15)
I Wonder U (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (2:47)
Raspberry Beret (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (2:16)
Delirious (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (1:03)
Controversy (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (1:22)
A Love Bizarre (Hamburg, 31 August 1986) (6:42)
Strange Relationship (1st Avenue, 21 March 1987) (4:40)
Get Wild (The White Room, London, 5 April 1995) (5:23)
Damn U (New York, 25 March 1993) (4:16)
The Max (New York, 25 March 1993) (5:15)
Johnny/Deuce & A Quarter (New York, 25 March 1993) (7:35)
Disc 2:
Automatic (San Francisco, 23 May 1986) (1:48)
D.M.S.R. (San Francisco, 23 May 1986) (0:55)
The Dance Electric (with André Cymone) (San Francisco, 23 May 1986) (2:33)
Rebirth Of The Flesh (1988 Rehearsal Version) (4:02)
Let’s Go Crazy (New York, 1993) (3:03)
Kiss (New York, 1993) (3:24)
Irresistible Bitch (New York, 1993) (2:02)
She’s Always In My Hair (New York, 1993) (3:18)
When You Were Mine (New York, 1993) (4:00)
Insatiable (New York, 1993) (3:26)
Scandalous (New York, 1993) (4:31)
The Question Of U (6:05)
The Undertaker Jam (Instrumental) (5:51)
Courtin’ Time (4:50)

biggrin

It’s as close to an official live album as you get, and unlike the One Nite Alone... Live album, this is all good, except maybe from the last three tracks. confused

Granted, there aren’t many hits on this collection, but there are a lot of fan-favorite tracks on here, most notably electrifying performances of Strange Relationship and Rebirth Of The Flesh. The emphasis on the Parade and Act I tours is a good choice, because those were great tours. The tracks from the Parade tour in particular are a delight to listen to with headphones. You just keep discovering new layers in the music to your left and to your right and even in the middle. cloud9

Naturally, all the "shit"s have been scratched, but that doesn’t really bother me all that much, and the last three tracks are more jams than songs. The Undertaker and Courtin’ Time doesn’t even sound like The Undertaker and Courtin’ Time, but they close out the album well, I guess. confused

I really love this live album and listen to it a lot. I can highly recommend collecting the NPG Ahdio Show live tracks into this unified experience. You’ll love it too, I’m sure. So go for it! woot!

That would be a great album, and much, much better than ONA Live. The only substitution I would make would be to take the version of "America" from the video, because that's just the bomb.

It's all from the Ahdio shows that Prince himself released to NPGMC members. So it's all officially released live tracks. nod

He also released a couple of live tracks in 2004. I put those on THIS homemade collection of officially released songs:

Prince: B-Sides 2004-2007
NPG In This Funky House/All The Critics Love U In Paris (Bataclan) (11:05)
Controversy (Live From Hawaii) (6:06)
Magnificent (4:42)
Purple House (3:39)
Dear Mr. Man (Live At Webster Hall) (4:16)
The United States Of Division (6:20)
Silver Tongue (Demo) (4:55)
GlassCutter (Demo) (4:39)
San Jose Jam (Soundcheck) (7:44)
S.S.T. (3:39)
Brand New Orleans (6:37)
Te Amo Corazon/Fury (Live At The Brit Awards) (5:31)
Feel Better, Feel Good, Feel Wonderful (Excerpt) (1:27)
The Song Of The Heart (4:35)
Guitar (3:18)

Oh?
Were the tracks meant for use this way?
You only got a copy, the tracks are still licensed does not apply?
So you can listen to the stuff but not do anything else.
You don't OWN the audio.
So: would this compilation be considered OK?
That is the `illegit` question.

These three from August 2001's Ahdio Show are from Los Angeles 30th May 1986, not San Francisco.
April 2001's Ahdio Show contained "America" from San Francisco 23rd May 1986.

Don't get me wrong.
I did not make up these ideas about (C)opyright.
They were born in someone else's mind.
Probably in the US of A.

Obviously we have a little bit more freedom in our ideas about (c).

Let's pay attention to the trial of the pirate bay people.

this post has nothing to do with copy right. last time i checked we were
still allowed to talk about prince's music as much as we wanted to.

the only thing illegal is sharing it online or posting clips of it but as
is obvious, neither of those appear on this thread.

this thread is simply offering up a nice idea of collecting all the live
tracks that prince officially released on singles and through the npgmc,
and make them into a 2cd live set.

it's no different from posting your favorit alternative tracklist to the
gold experience with songs added or omitted.

the fact that some of these tracks are parts of ahdioshows doesn't change
any of that. if you download those, you can chose to listen to them for
your own enjoyment whatever way you want, even if you like to cut them up
into individual tracks and re-arrange those to your liking.
