What do you think of the fact Prince actually sang this song with his own voice?

Ooh
I'll never open my legs again/To a man who's insecure
I'll never open my legs again/Unless I'm really sure
Chorus
No I'll never, never,no/Never be another fool

Sad but true, I slept with you/I thought we were in love (i was so blind baby)
I even got a rose tatoo/and that was not enough ( oh you blew my mind)
Chorus
but ill never,no never no ooh
never be another fool ooh ooh
never be another ah fool,no no

Nothing but the best of me/I gave with open arms ,I loved you so
Alive and well, I'm back from hell/Released of your charms
(It's time to go)
Scene 23, exit, fade to black/Tel me, (why did you have to ) why'd you have to come back

why,This love you need to fade/Leave the past to yesterday
If only one thing is true/I ain't gonna be another fool, ooh
never,no no
Never be another fool
never ,no no no no
Never be another fool
You think about callin'? - Don't!
never ,never no,never be another fool

He knew he would give that song to a female singer. He's a professional and he sang the lyrics he thought would fit her voice best, that's it.

Was this song officially released?

If not then he usually sings it for a female singer.

Supa he is not gay. razz

I guess it could have been shocking, but you really don't need to "open your legs" for another man if you're going to have gay sex with him.

... I think. neutral

Help me out here.

Another thing is: If he didn't keep in mind that he actually wanted a female singer to sing this while writing the song, "opening his legs for another man" could simply have a symbolic meaning, f.e. trusting someone too much. We know the way Prince often describes things. Think about Old Friends 4 Sale: "U better watch out, they'll kiss U" We know he was also singing about male persons in his life, like his bodyguard for example. Do you really think he meant his bodyguard would kiss him?

kiss of death or betrayal i think. opening ones for either male or female could symbolize making one's self vulnerable to another. confused then again, it most likely just a song for some random chick singer.

Well, but I don't really think he finally "confessed" his homosexuality with this one song. That "Gregory looks like a ghost" line can also be interpreted in thousands of other ways than meaning he was shagging a beautiful, young boy. I think he was always very daring in his music, always looking for ways to disturb his fans, but he certainly is not homosexual. I think all the other theories about him playin' with us or simply recording one song the way he thought it would sound best are way more plausible.

I've never heard that. Was that a demo for someone else?

I've often wondered about Prince's penchant for writing songs expressly for women. It's rare that he's deliberately written music with a male vocalist in mind, and the lyrics often make it clear what the gender roles are supposed to be in the finished product.

Even some of his own songs, though many don't mention gender explicitly, are vague in their intention, or seem to invert the standard way of doing things. (Do Me Baby comes to mind)

People are going to argue 'til the end of forever about Prince's sexual orientation, but I think it's quite safe to call the lil fella profoundly genderqueer. And that's a trait I genuinely hope his current beliefs haven't yet or won't cause him to bury. nod

I hope your joking. You know the song went to Chaka and we know P has done demo for a lot of the songs he has written for other artist. I guess all the Motown song writers were gay as well.

MRGee

Prince plays with his Fans and with Lyrics. He is Not Gay. He paled around with all Straight guys in Minneapolis not Gay ones. Alot of people who don't like him say...Oh..He's Gay....Kinda in a Derogatory way. I think trying to analyze Prince through his music is Crazy. I don't think that he always writes about Actual Incidents in his life. I think he writes alot of Fantasy Songs. It's all about the music anyway. Also, Prince always made demo tapes for his Protegees with his voice and yes I heard that song Another Fool was for Sandra St Victor. Why should Prince Care about Fans Interpreting his music? We are going to buy whatever he Creates.

Let's put it this way. The only thing shocking about Clay Aiken's coming out was he beat Prince to the punch.

Prince paid an out of court settlement for this and couple of other songs on Emancipation - soul sanctury is another one that she isn't credited for...

this is not a 'one time only' thing unfortuately....Morris Day wrote the music on PartyUp...in return for claiming the song to be a Prince only track, Prince offered either $10,000 or his help to get Morris a record deal...Morris chose the later and of course the rest is history...

another is 'Do Me Baby' which by several accounts was actualy an Andre Cymone original....

it's a hard call though sometimes...I mean people can hear things and repeat what they hear later on in life without knowing where the idea really came from...I don't think though the the songs mentioned above would fall into that category...but hey, I wasn't there...although I do know definately (from Morris Day's own recollection, no less) that Partyup wasn't a Prince-only composition... Prince wrote the lyrics, but the music was originally composed by Morris...how much Prince changed things is the unknown - which often makes it very difficult to 'nail down' who wrote what... I gues that's 'life' as a musician wink
