Producers that could (gasp) collaborate with Prince?

I think that El-P (example, El-P's remix of Head Automatica's "Beating Heart Baby"), Trent Reznor (example "Only", "Sunspots") Beck/Dangermouse could all collaborate Prince and expand his horizons without compromising his artistic goals.

The usual suspects that always deliver.
If Prince ever wanted to to experiment, I dont think he or orgers here would be dissapointed if he used any of these guys on a one-off project.

Rick Rubin
T- Bone Burnett
Brian Eno
Daniel Lanois

WHY?

Prince In the recording studio = Free
Anyone else present = Not free

so why would he want to hire someone who knows shit about his music?

indeed, maybe Prince could do something for these cats, we are talkin about Prince here, he does it his way and others follow.

You're right, the producers mentioned above are not only expensive, but they are also picky about who they work with, plus they are not like appolonia as in going along with any contract he chooses, but will demand a nice fat cut of every album sold.

Brian Eno

Eno's said that Prince is 'this producer's producer'. It was in a Q magazine interview from a few years back. He enthused something along the lines of Prince being an alien musical super-genius far beyond his 'tinkering' level. He added that Prince was also Bono's favourite composer - but they argued over whether he was releasing too much material, which Bono thought he was.
I agree with Eno. Prince's music is so heavily founded and anchored to his own past innovations, soundscapes and personnas that having anyone else in the studio would be in direct conflict with Prince's absolute freedom of expression.
When you get a Prince record, you get a Prince record - faults and all. I like knowing it's all him. It's not like that with anyone else. I think it's a bit bold of most artists and bands to have just their names on the front when their work has been the outcome of collaborations between many people. U2 included.

ok, good point.

kinda like those Phil Specter tweaked beatle records. or what they did to John Lennons "Free As A Bird" or "Real Love"...there was something just not right about them.

GREAT post! Thanks, I never knew Eno thought of Prince so highly.

Also, SPOT on with the part I bolded. I agree 100%.

The ONLY guy that would do Prince any justice is Jamie Starr.

Oh yes indeed! I would pass out if they met up and did some work together again. lol
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
