£50 FOR ONA LIVE! HOW CAN PRINCE JUSTIFY THIS PRICE?

i just looked at the hmv uk site and the ona live boxset is going to retail at £49.99!!!($75.00) how can prince justify this price for a live album. most double albums in the uk cost around £15 so i would say a more realistic price would have been £20 or £25 at the most.
...i have accepted that prince is never going to be a mainstream artist again but i just just wish he wouldn't try so hard to make sure he isn't.

That's cheap for a high-quality sample library. As you'd know if you were a musician. The sampler set wasn't intended for ordinary consumers.

Most single Albums sell for £15.

The box-set is an 'import' which accounts for the high price. For £65 you can join the club for a year.

Justified

Employees (need paid)
Manufacturing costs (need paid)
Packaging artist's (need paid)
Promotional advertising & Travel Expenses (need paid)
Postal Carrier (need paid)
Electric Bill (need paid)
Any and ALL TAXES incurred from the above (State, Local, Federal as well as International when on tour).

All of this does add up when you are "independent" and doing a GLOBALLY distributed item.
Sometimes you have to do research to know what COST EFFECTIVENESS IS...and U just dont put out a cd without incurring Behind the Scene Costs in Business. Especially since the CD is gonna be sold GLOBALLY and with QUALITY.

The CD BOX set also pays for a portion of the TOUR he just finished. Please note the following:

Advertising for TOUR
Entertainment TAX for venues at localities
Marketing & Promoting
Wardrobe
Film & Lighting Crews
Home Base Costs incurred while on TOUR
TV and Radio Advertising Run Time Spots
(cost approximately $1000-3000 per spot, per run).
Crew Costs - Food/Hotel/Telephone etc.
Maintenance on Buses and or Instrumental Equipment
Band Hotel Fees (food, wardrobe & etc.)
Assistants to the CREW (lighting stage & otherwise)

PS there is more but I dint wanna BORE YA.
IT is not CHEAP to market, tour & put out a quality CD.

Hope U learnt something
GODBLISS U
With Love Honor & Respect

PS and for those who say the "TOUR" pays for itself...

I dont even wanna get into the deep COSTS of a TOUR But please include:

PLANE TICKETS...(that costs big time)
So be happy that he is still sharing his TALENT and gave the ability for you to see him as well as the ENTIRE BAND and those who worked with him thru this TOUR.

GODBLISS U and may U and yours have ultimate PEACE

The cost of producing such a CD would be a couple of pounds at the most. It will only be left to Prince's hardcore to buy. Why the cost is so high like everything else NPGMC has to offer, I really don't know why! It aint't cheap being a Prince fan, however we are all spoilt brats when you consider the amount of work Prince does, e.g. The vast musical range of musical styles and fusions, the vast amount of albums and tours. I think blackboab has a valid point. However I am what I would consider a hardcore fam, for the reasons that I have just stated I won't be complaining. The enjoyment I get from Listening to Prince is worth every penny and more, although I would say that.

true enjoyment can't be valued in money. But that doesn't mean that true enjoyment should cost you money either. It's basically selling yourself out when a man sells his gift from God (if that's what he believes he has). But yes that's the world we're living in, people need to be paid. But that doesn't mean that people need to be overpaid or that it is possible for anybody to nominate any form of art in dollar signs.

Prince is selling a product (don't turn it into something else now!), but sells it at the highest prices possible and makes promises in order to do so. He needs to keep his promisses and demand more reasonable prices for it.

The reason they r charging £50 4 One Nite Alone Live is because it is an import, but they said it will go down in price when it is released 15th December. If u happen 2 look at the Rainbow Children CD in HMV it is priced £19.99, simply because it is an import, even though I bought mine at Play.com 4 £9.99 which was a bargin.

I UK we always get ripped off big time by CD prices unless you order from play.com etc. That's another reason why the £65 club charge is ok from my point of view, because I would buy the cds straight away. I know my fellow Americans get a better deal . .so annoying!

this price seems very steep but what the hell i'll pay it if one night alone live is as good as the rainbow children/one night alone/high then it will be money well spent
but this is pushing the boat and when will I draw the line at the price my prince collection costs me???

I've said it before and I will say it again.

WHEN was Prince ever a 'mainstream' artist?

Not during the 20 years I've been a dedicated fan.

He knows he doesn't have to justify anything to anyone. End of story.

Why do people suppose its OK to be overcharged because they will like the music on their CD purchase? I dont like Westlife, but I don't expect their albums to be cheaper!

So what did you say about him trying for the mainstream with Purple Rain--the film and cd project?

Its actually a double CD with a bonus disc included. The price for a double CD on import in the UK should be £30 tops.

How much of this cost is down to Prince?
I've searched on all the usuals...play.com...amazon.co.uk etc and no-one else has the set to the UK
So, if HMV are the only ones bothering to stock it, they can charge what they want. Same as Rainbow Children. For anyone not on the Net, HMV is the only place to buy it, so they charge £20 - $35
If CD Universe in the States have ONA Live at $39, about £25, I have began to see HMV as the villians of the piece, not Prince.
What we want is other retailers to stock it, then the price will come down

Well obviously u r finding the most ridiculously expensive places to shop...
Usually a new release single album costs about 12.99 if U DON'T SHOP around...
TRY PLAY247.com... the usually start at 8.99 or 9.99 for new albums...

ONALive is a ripoff no 2ways about it. Even for an import. RIP-OFF. Any1 who thinks otherwise is just another Prince yesman.
