your favourite spiritual/religious song?

And more importantly, why?

Without even having to think on it too much, mine's The Cross. (not that mess, "The Christ" disbelief )

I'm not particularly religious. If anything, I'd consider myself agnostic. But to me, The Cross is hands down one of the most moving and meaningful songs Her Highness has ever done. It's uplifting; a message of hope and salvation. It's beautiful. I don't think a person needs to necessarily share in those beliefs to appreciate the beauty of this song.

Even on a sonic level, it's wonderful IMO. I love how the vocals and the music start out softly, then gradually build up 'til he's screaming the lyrics. Good stuff.

You?

"Saviour," is beautiful. The song unites the Eve of a woman and the Adam of a man in dedicated desire for their love and the emotions that sets two people on one axle of a driven dream.

Sorry, I am not very good at explaining why. Not in English
anyway. The composition is so unique, it doesn't resemble any
other song by anybody ever. Also, the lyrics are strange but
very well written, imo. Just fascinating.

I agree Anna Stesia. It's a beautiful composition and runs so deep.

But I'm torn between my top 3 as to which one is the best.

I also love One Song and Thunder.

One Song because it just really puts it out there and Thunder, because when Love runs through your veins, it's explosive. biggrin

I know you asked for our favourite "Spiritiual" songs, but if it were a Top 3, I would say:

3. And God Created Woman
2. The Cross
1. Anna Stesia

"Anna Stesia" it is then.

Especially the version that he did on the "One Nite Alone Live" boxset cool drool

I think I know what you mean. English is my first language and I too have trouble putting into words what Anna Stesia does for me. Like I said, The Cross is my favourite, but Anna Stesia is pretty high on my list. nod

I wish I were more eloquent.

A classic, even if a lot of people think it's a love song. Which, I suppose, it is in a way. Just not the way a lot of people think it is.

That's a good one. A truly fun spiritual song, and there's not many by any artist you could say that about.

Damn him and his ginormous catalogue. Lil Fella doesn't make it easy to pick just one, does he?

Yup. nod

I can't even imagine what it would be like if he had the output of a normal musician. On the one hand, it'd be easier to keep track of what he's done, but on the other there'd be so much less variety and we'd have to wait a few years between albums instead of a matter of 10 or so months.

I definitely like it this way better. smile

-Still Would Stand All Time (underrated ballad about the eternality of God)
-4 The Tears In Ur Eyes (if i had to rank them this would be #1; a great submission to the We are the World project. Rare acoustic song from him, incredible lyrics about the Messiah)
-The Cross (classic, simple, powerful)
-Elephants & Flowers (the most unexpected "spiritual" song, a testament to his creativity and how he sees God in everything)
-God (A simple yet moving precursor of future "spiritual songs" to come)
-The Word (one of 3121's great spiritual gems)
-Love (may not be immediately identifiable as a "spiritual song" but love IS spiritual)
-Beautiful Love & Blessed (great truths and affirmations about how God sees us)
-Everywhere (TRC was worth if for this song alone, way too short!!)
-And God Created Woman (a well written ode to women; quite a contrast to songs like Irresistible)
-Lion Of Judah (one of the names of God that speaks to His wrath, love the carefree FEEL of the song, its a paradox to the hook of the song)
-Last December (great ballad that gives you a lot to think about regarding your life)
-Get On The Boat (i don't like the song that much, i bet it KILLS live, but i love its message)
